Woolies manager gives shopper 1,000 Everyday Rewards Points for “being such a nice person”

Who would have thought that simply being a good person at the supermarket could help you save up on your groceries?

One woman didn’t, that’s why she was so surprised when a Woolies staffer rewarded her with a thousand Everyday Rewards Points for her “gesture of goodwill” in store!

In a popular Facebook group, Joanna from North Queensland shared the story of how she was given 1,000 Everyday Rewards Points for being a decent person at the supermarket.

It started when she was out shopping at her local Woolies and accidentally dropped a carton of eggs at the checkout, leaving one of the eggs broken and splattered on the floor.

So she asked a lady at the checkout for some towels so she could clean up the mess, but the staffer insisted on doing it for her. They also asked Joanna if she wanted a new carton of eggs, but she said she’ll be responsible and take the ones she dropped.

What happened next completely surprised her.

Turns out, the manager-on-duty was nearby and had seen the situation. “[She] came over and said that she was giving me 1,000 rewards on my Everyday Rewards for being such a nice person and attempting to clean up,” said Joanna.

She followed by writing to fellow shoppers that it “doesn’t take much” to be a decent person at the supermarket, or anywhere really, so this story should be something they look out for.

Joanna’s post was met with a lot of positive reactions from the members of the Facebook group, with many of them sharing similar encounters as her.

One woman said that she once helped an elderly lady get food out of her trolley. When the guy at the checkout saw her helping, he gave her a thousand points on her rewards card for being polite and helpful.

Others pointed out that while there are a lot of kind and neighbourly shoppers out there, there are also employees who genuinely love their jobs and go out of their way to help customers.

Meanwhile, a shopper pitched in with a bit of humour and said: “Note to self: Next time, drop eggs at the check out counter and offer to clean up.”

Funnily enough yesterday my husband mistakenly went to a card only self serve checkout instead of the one just before it. We started to move away to go back to the end of the queue (only two people) when the lady behind us insisted that we use the cash one which she was just about to use. I thanked her profusely for her kindness and she then said to me "you were kind to me the other day". I had no memory of doing anything for this lady but she apparently did. So a good turn does sometimes come back to you :)

You do know it's not the store that makes the shopping experience, it is always going to be the staff who work there, my husband knows all the staff at our local by name. He even takes food that he has cooked for them to try. So remember, it's the people who turn up everyday and even if they have had a bad customer they still smile and say "have a nice day".
