I didn’t read them myself but my mother did. I still have some of her magazines from the 1960s and 70s. They are fun to look through now at the fashion the recipes and the adverts.

I still have my blue, hard covered cook book which is about 70 years old. I don't cook much these days but I still have my book. From memory I think it was my Mother who gave it to me and she earned her wings in 1978

I use to buy the magazine in the 70’s, there was always plenty of good reading, recipes etc - not like now it is full of advertisements. I still have and use my Women’s Weekly cookbook.

I totally agree with you about mags and ads. I'm sick of seeing cooking, "beauty", health and same stories. To me, they are now a waste of money. WW and New Idea were always the pick of the bunch which my Mum and I bought. Sadly, today they aren't worth buying.

The Women's Weekly is and always has been a totally boring magazine. And yes my mother actually liked it

Loved it as a young married it was a font of knowledge. Then many years later I was lucky enough to have some short stories accepted. Extra money was very handy.

Living in the UK, my mum always had the English WW.
In 1966 I was getting married and looking for a pattern for my wedding dress. I knew exactly what I wanted but couldn't find a pattern.
One morning, after receiving her copy, my mum yelled 'Penny, I've found your dress!!! There, in the magazine, was the pattern of my dream dress. A friend of my husband ro be made it as our present and I proudly wore it on the day.

My husband was a young single man when he was left with a house block of land after his parents had died. He used house plans in WOMENS WEEKLY to help him design a home for himself.
Later it was our first home when we married. We sold it when we decided to leave the town.
It was a compact 2 bedroom home.
