Imagine attending a loved one's funeral and bidding them a final heartfelt farewell, only to have them wake up right in front of your eyes, in the coffin!
It's a terrifying thought, yet that's exactly what happened to the family of 76-year-old Bella Montoya.
After she was declared deceased after going into cardiorespiratory arrest, Montoya's grieving family were given a death certificate from the hospital and proceeded to organise her wake within just four hours.
As the grieving family mourned the loss of their beloved during the funeral service, they were shocked to witness her left hand hitting the side of the coffin, causing it to shake.
‘Her left hand was hitting the side of the coffin, and it was shaking,’ said her stunned son, Gilbert Balberan, talking to local media, as reported by local media outlet Jam Press.
The bewildered family members quickly called a medic to examine Montoya, only to find out that, astonishingly, she was breathing and had regained consciousness right before their eyes.
In awe, Balberan described the surreal event as a ‘miracle from God’and admitted that he was still struggling to come to terms with the baffling situation.
Diving deeper into the mysterious case, the hospital staff suggested that Montoya's cardiorespiratory arrest may have induced catalepsy – a rare medical condition characterised by a decreased sensitivity to pain, loss of voluntary movement, and a significant reduction in breathing rate.
This could have led to the misdiagnosis of her death.
Now in a stable condition and undergoing treatment at the very hospital that had prematurely declared her deceased, Montoya is making progress, much to her family's relief.
‘My mother is on oxygen. Her heart is stable,’ Balberan said, adding, ‘The doctor squeezed her hand, and she reacted. They tell me this is a good sign because it means she is reacting little by little.’
Ecuador's Ministry of Health has launched an investigation into the erroneous issuance of Montoya's death certificate.
While nothing can take away the emotional whirlwind experienced by Montoya's family, we can only hope that they can now cherish the newfound precious moments with their seemingly resurrected loved one.

when she was young all the woman where whaling and crying the coffin was open as they do in their funerals all of a sudden the woman sat up in the coffin all the women screamed 
and left the room my grandmother was the only one that did leave and helped her out of the coffin ⚰ this was back in the late 1930's early 1940's
