Woman wakes up in a coffin at her own funeral and leaves everyone speechless!

We love reading about extraordinary stories here at the Seniors Discount Club. But what transpired in Ecuador recently surpassed even our wildest imaginations.

Imagine attending a loved one's funeral and bidding them a final heartfelt farewell, only to have them wake up right in front of your eyes, in the coffin!

It's a terrifying thought, yet that's exactly what happened to the family of 76-year-old Bella Montoya.

After she was declared deceased after going into cardiorespiratory arrest, Montoya's grieving family were given a death certificate from the hospital and proceeded to organise her wake within just four hours.

As the grieving family mourned the loss of their beloved during the funeral service, they were shocked to witness her left hand hitting the side of the coffin, causing it to shake.

‘Her left hand was hitting the side of the coffin, and it was shaking,’ said her stunned son, Gilbert Balberan, talking to local media, as reported by local media outlet Jam Press.

The bewildered family members quickly called a medic to examine Montoya, only to find out that, astonishingly, she was breathing and had regained consciousness right before their eyes.

In awe, Balberan described the surreal event as a ‘miracle from God’and admitted that he was still struggling to come to terms with the baffling situation.

Diving deeper into the mysterious case, the hospital staff suggested that Montoya's cardiorespiratory arrest may have induced catalepsy – a rare medical condition characterised by a decreased sensitivity to pain, loss of voluntary movement, and a significant reduction in breathing rate.

This could have led to the misdiagnosis of her death.

Now in a stable condition and undergoing treatment at the very hospital that had prematurely declared her deceased, Montoya is making progress, much to her family's relief.

‘My mother is on oxygen. Her heart is stable,’ Balberan said, adding, ‘The doctor squeezed her hand, and she reacted. They tell me this is a good sign because it means she is reacting little by little.’

Ecuador's Ministry of Health has launched an investigation into the erroneous issuance of Montoya's death certificate.

While nothing can take away the emotional whirlwind experienced by Montoya's family, we can only hope that they can now cherish the newfound precious moments with their seemingly resurrected loved one.

So, dear Seniors Discount Club members, there you have it – just when you think you've heard it all, life throws another surprise at you! Stay amazed, stay curious, and hold your loved ones a little tighter because life truly is unpredictable.

And this folks is why I'm against quick funerals like Moslems do.

I watched a funny video at the funeral of an Irish Man , when they had just lowered the coffin in the ground, when all of a sudden knocking started and the man started calling out ...Get me out of hear ...can you hear me get me out....this continued for a bit then he said he was dead and just wanted to have a last joke.

I loved this as they got to hear him again and he would have made them laugh for one last time.

I thought that he was very clever and people would have seen he wanted them happy not sad

Don't they perform autopsies? I mean they literally cut the people open, remove organs etc etc. Something just doesn't sit right here.

They don't usually perform post mortems if the person has been in hospital or under the care of a doctor for the period of two weeks or so before the death. The issue here would seem to be that not enough attention was paid to her vital signs in order to assess whether death had actually occurred.

L have left my body to science, with one stipulation. Make sure I'm bloody dead.

Wow and I wonder how many thus has happened to

Not always, my husbands cousin passed away age 32 at home in her bed , her partner was asleep on the couch .
Her son went to wake her up and couldn't because she had passed away supposedly in her sleep.
Their doctor came out , pronounced her dead, wrote the death certificate and then arranged for her to be taken to the funeral parlor.
We asked why they never did an autopsy, the reply was the doctor was ok saying she suffercated while having an epileptic fit.
Some of us wondered if her partner had something to do with it due to him being very abusive to her. This was February 1992 in Sydney

God Bless your grandmother!

Must have happened a lot in the past. Didn’t they used to put a bell on a string in the coffins so it could be rung if the person woke up. Someone sat with it overnight in case the bell rang. ( graveyard shift).
