Woman shocks social media after revealing the surprising 'secret' ingredient behind Macca's sweet 'n' sour sauce

We all know that when it comes to fast food, we're not really eating the healthiest of meals. We're usually well aware that the chicken nuggets we love so much probably aren't made of 100% pure chicken meat, and that those thick shakes are loaded with sugar.

But even though we go into our favourite fast food joints with our eyes wide open, there are still some things that can come as a surprise.

Case in point: one woman's recent revelation about McDonald's iconic sweet 'n' sour sauce. In a TikTok video, the UK-based user claimed she was shocked to learn what the main ingredient in the popular condiment actually is – apricot. Yes, you read that correctly. Apricot!

'McDonald’s sweet ’n’ sour sauce – am I the only one that didn’t know what fruit it was made of until today?' she asked in her video.

The woman's claim was later confirmed by the official website of McDonald's Australia.

The ingredients are listed as 'apricot or peach blended with spicy flavours including Worcestershire, vinegar and mustard,' giving credence to the fact that some of our favourite sauces may have very surprising mixes of ingredients.

The video has made the rounds on social media, capturing the attention of more than 380.000 viewers.

Several users expressed their shock at the woman's revelation.

'I said mango SO confidently. I had no idea that it was even a fruit,' commented one user.

Another agreed and added: 'Our favourite sauce and the worst fruit.'

A third chimed in: 'I would like to know why you would shatter my world view like that. Explain, please. Thank you.'

However, not everyone was surprised by the woman's claim, with some claiming that they have long known that the sauce contained apricots.

One person pointed out: 'It literally tastes like apricot. I mean I knew, but I thought it was obvious.'

Meanwhile, one individual who claims to prepare the sauce themselves offered a completely different recipe.

'I make it from scratch using tomato sauce, pineapple juice and balsamic vinegar. Never used apricot,' they claimed.

What is all the fuss about. Apricot is a fruit - guess you can use what you like, what is available.

So why is it shocking???? And why is it such big news that it warrants concern?

I love sweet & sour sauce but I usually keep a bottle of Aldi's sweet & sour stirfry sauce in the cupboard to use with any chicken or pastry dippers. It can always be used up as the reason it was invented in the first place Stirfrys. Much better than paying for a tiny bottle at the same price.

I dont eat at McDonalds any more.... Prefer Hungry Jacks and not that often.... There is nothing wrong with peaches or apricots but a hell of a lot wrong with "CORN SYRUP" but as the rest of the sugar/sweet based I guess it doesnt matter to those who frequent the place for fattening food anyway.
