Woman shares the one item you need to fix clothes that shrunk in the wash – “I had no idea this was possible!”

Have you ever washed a new dress, jumper, top or pants only for it to end up shrinking to a tinier size in the wash? Nothing is as frustrating as this fashion emergency, but luckily, one hack proved that it doesn’t have to end there. So, don’t throw away your shrunken clothes just yet!

TikTok sensation Ashley Creight shared how she discovered a workaround to the laundry dilemma after she shrunk one of her favourite dresses in the wash. The solution? Calling her mum for help.

In a series of TikTok videos, Ashley admitted that even at the age of 29, she couldn’t think of any better option than reaching out to her mum for guidance because, in her own words, "Mum knows everything”.

"I am nowhere near ready for the day my kids are grown-ups and they call me because I'm supposed to know everything because I know nothing," she added.

Fortunately, her mum didn’t fail to deliver an effective remedy – and all you need to get your hands on to reverse a shrunken clothing item in the wash is... Baby shampoo! You read that right – a common product found in most households.

Simply combine a tablespoon of baby shampoo into a bowl of water before completely submerging the shrunken garment. Ashley’s mum instructed her to leave the dress in the mixture for about 30 minutes to an hour.

Ashley followed up with a second video where she can be spotted taking the wet dress outside and squeezing out the excess water from it.

"My mum said she's heard people say lay it flat on a towel but she hangs it up and lets it air dry." The Tiktoker added that she placed the dress on a coathanger as per her mum's instructions.

Revealing the highly anticipated result with those following along, Ashley concludes her laundry saga flaunting the dress that's now back in its regular shape – a great success!

"It was quite honestly up here in the front and back," Ashley said, modelling in the dress
to demonstrate.

"It's stretched itself out. I gave it a nice little steam, I'm going to iron the sleeves just so they're in place, but ta-da!"

Several users in the comments recommended other tried and tested remedies for the laundry havoc including using conditioner and fabric softener.

“Hair conditioner works too. Good laundry hack!” a person suggested.

“I just rewash it and then hang it to dry… I also give it a slight tug at the ends. This usually works for me lol.” another chimed in.

“YES! I have to do this almost every time my husband does the laundry.” a third teased.

“For those of us without mums to call, this is valuable information. Thank you.” commented on more.

We wish we knew this before getting rid of our favourite clothing items that shrunk in the wash. But hey, it’s nice to know that there’s actually a cheap and quick fix now, eh? And if you want more, we’ve got a similar hack as well that will get an old, tight pair of jeans fitting you perfectly again!
