'Anthony Albanese, I am so deeply saddened to hear someone shopping at Coles admit to her friend in tears that sometimes she now steals food because she simply can’t put food on the table any other way,' she wrote.

‘Of course, there is food relief et al. (but those services are also at breaking point). It’s disheartening to witness firsthand the desperation that leads someone to resort to theft just to put food on the table.’

The woman's post also expressed her disillusionment with Prime Minister Albanese, accusing him of failing to deliver on his promises and not doing enough to alleviate the hardship faced by many Australians.

‘While I have you, I am feeling let down and somewhat hoodwinked by you. Your sentiment around truly understanding hardship because of your upbringing seems to have been just talk.’

‘I firmly believe you are no longer committed to the cause. High expectations were set, but you are starting to run the risk of being the pleaser and not making the hard calls that are needed in this space.’

‘What I heard today made me realise that not enough is being done that was promised to make a positive impact on the lives of those struggling with adversity.’

The post resonated with many, who echoed her sentiments and expressed their own frustrations with the current state of affairs.

‘The line at ReachOut (food pantry) was around the corner and down the street this afternoon,’ one user commented.

‘Food costs are beyond ridiculous right now. I fear that the horse has bolted, and once it’s out...it’s not coming back for pats,’ another added.

‘And sorry to say, but Albo is just another politician. Hope he sees this and listens, but I’m not holding my breath. Sad state of affairs.’

A third said, ‘He really has been a disappointment. Where is he? What is he doing for us? How much longer can people go on like this?’

As the cost of living continues to rise, Australians always look for ways to stretch their dollars further, especially regarding the weekly grocery shop.

Food relief measures have been introduced by some supermarket giants in a bid to help Australians save on their grocery bills.

This week, Coles announced a significant price drop on over 300 items across its stores, offering the lowest prices in four years, providing a much-needed reprieve for budget-conscious shoppers.

Some products included are household essentials, beef, chicken, and several lamb buys.

Prime Minister Albanese announced the intention of the government to introduce new measures to ease families’ cost of living pressures nationwide.

He signalled that his administration actively seeks ways to alleviate financial stress without exacerbating inflation. Read more about the Prime Minister’s announcement here.

I have seen many requests for assistance (food and such) on my community f/b page and literally hundreds of people replying with assistance offering cooked meals, pantry supplies, clothes and toiletries, even offering a room and shelter. There are also many food banks and supplies at various local offices. How about just try reaching out first.

Our Govts do not Serve the People they Serve the Greed driven Global Overlords ,where's the News footage showing the Cues of desperate hungry People at Food Kitchens ,its hidden on purpose , People need to grow their own Food also its cheap and easy The Govt has let these Grubby Multinational owned Supermarkets Price gouge for too long the Govt could arrange Food Stamps to help ,reduce Rental Costs, build more Public housing, reduce some of the greedy Taxes, but they actually dont give a Fat RATS Arse

Inflation is a evil component of a free enterprise economy. Supply & demand are what pushes the prices up. Constantly hearing of people stealing food using the cost etc as their reasoning, but no indication of how much their income is to support their reasoning (if reasoning is an excuse to steal). Still see & read of huge crowds at sales, flashing their cards with no thought of how do I pay for this when the credit card payment is due. Don't see too many shabby smartphones or lack of queues at fast food outlet. 4-5 streaming services or passing over $40+ per day on a packet of cigarettes. That's the one that gets me.

Exactly right. All he seems to worry about is when he can take another trip abroad. Keep saying to my husband, doesn't he know how to use Skype or Zoom.

Well...who really thinks the Federal Government is responsible for the decisions made by corporations behind the closed doors of the boardroom?

Next thing you'll being blaming Anthony Albanese (or any politician, for that matter) for the demise of the dinosaurs! FMD!
I know! People have bought into all the media rubbish and don't think for themselves anymore. Even this article is full of emotive language and a bias to blaming the government, and sadly people, like lemmings, just follow whatever opinion is fed to them without thinking for themselves.

I question the need to raise interest rates to supposedly halt inflation- I wonder if Michele Bullock knows her economics.
Higher rates => higher (mandatory) loan repayment by avg households (not the rich politicians) => lower disposable income for necessities like food
And for landlords, higher rates => increasing rents => negative impact on renter’s disposable income for necessities like food.
Why prices increase? The fact that supply costs are higher because producers depend on higher logistics costs of bringing the food to consumers - rising cost of fuel and transportation. Also supermarket shareholders wanting more profits.

He is a coward ,the o/seas trips are so he doesn’t have to answer the hard questions, even when in Australia he passes the hard questions to someone else. I would like to knock that stupid grin off his face , he is just a dumb arse. Rant over.

Political parties will promise the earth until they get into power, then forget it till the next time.

What a lot of BS. No one needs to steal anything. People on very low incomes like unemployment benefits or pensioners can and do manage even if it’s a struggle. Send me your budget and exactly what you are buying each month or week. I guarantee that you haven’t learned to shop correctly or written down a budget plan for the week, or month however you receive your income. I am a very disabled pensioner who cannot get out of my home which is rented to go to the shops myself and I have to rely on ordering from either Coles or Woolworths in the main. I have been able to go to a local grocers this week for the first time in several months and what a joy it was to be able to choose for myself. I pay just under half my pension in rent, I write out my budget for the month and stick to it except the very odd splurge. I manage to feed myself for approx $4 -$5 a day, sometimes less around $3.50. I have three meals a day and elevenses and an afternoon snack most days. Sometimes I don’t want a meal. It is very difficult for me to stand and cook due to my ill health. However I find that I’m able to make a toasted sandwich, or an omelette or something easy, maybe beans on toast or a salad. On good days I make maybe a casserole, or a meatloaf usually something that will give me several portions which I can freeze. If i buy a chicken from Coles and make full use of it I’m able to make six chicken and leek pies from the two breasts, I then have two legs which give me two more portions at least and I’m able to freeze the wings until I have another chicken or two and I make roasted sesame and honey marinated wings. This still leaves the carcass which can be frozen again until I have collected another carcass or so and I use that yo make homemade chicken and vegetable soup or a variant of other soup recipes. I make a stunning carrot soup called potage a la Crecy which serves 4-6 portion and uses $2 worth of carrots, a little butter, an onion and a little rice plus chicken stock. This is haut cuisine not peasant food although there are many wonderful soups that are good rustic and nourishing. A kilo of top grade minced beef will make meatloaf that serves at least 6 portions if you add vegetables and maybe some breadcrumbs. I can continue on and on. Search the internet or library for old recipes from last century, start growing a few vegetables even in pots learn how to shop and cook. Make everything you are able from scratch and use your local grocers and work out the cost of each portion of a dish. You will soon be able to eat very well on even a small pension. I buy a bag of popping corn and make my own popcorn which I put a little salt on. It takes minutes and tastes great, I use stale bread to make crunchy crouton like snacks. I use good olive oil, or the left over oil from olives or sundried tomatoes dried Italian herbs, and brush this over the bread slices and put them in the oven on a tray when I cook a casserole or chicken or pies etc. turn and brush the other side and you will have tasty snacks that cost a tiny amount. Just cut them into bite size pieces. You just have to widen your recipe knowledge and if you have the internet browse thrifty recipes. There are literally hundreds of sites that will show you how to make great cheap meals. There are no excuses for stealing or forgoing good food. That’s laziness combined with a lack of knowledge, both of which can be overcome by hard work and a change of attitude. If you are really unable to budget go and find someone to assist you. Most churches and charitable organisations have people who will work with you to show you how. Stop being defeatist and become proactive. You may have to give up shop bought biscuits, cakes, chips, fizzy drinks, cigarettes, etc but your health will improve and much stress will be removed from your life knowing you can feed yourself and your family on a tiny budget.

Can I come to your place for dinner? haha Sounds good!

Woolworths needs serious looking into when it comes to prices - some items have nearly doubled - and they are not the Fresh Food People - some of the vegies have more wrinkles than I do!!
Some you wouldn’t feed to the pigs , I have picked up rotten fruit ,looked ok until you pick it up surely the staff should be aware when placing it out ,or are they too dumb to know the difference.
