Woman left shocked after using Kmart broom on her 'clean' carpet

We've all been there – you think your house is clean, but then you notice a missed spot or two. It's frustrating, but it happens to everyone from time to time.

But what if we told you that there might be a lot more dirt and dust lurking in your home than you realise? One Aussie woman learned this the hard way after trying out Kmart's new rubber broom and squeegee on her carpets.

The shopper was surprised to find layers of invisible dirt, dust, and hair after using the budget buy on what she thought was already a clean carpet.

'Grab yourself one of these. No matter how much I vacuum, there's always at least this much to be swept out! That's only a small patch,' wrote the woman in her Facebook post.

She also recommended using a lint roller to 'level up' the cleanliness of your carpet.

She immediately took to Facebook to share her findings with others in the hopes that they could avoid making the same mistake.

After recommending the product on a popular cleaning inspiration Facebook group, many people seemed eager to buy one for themselves after seeing how well it worked for this woman.

'Guess I'm going to Kmart,' one user wrote in the comments section, with another adding: 'I love the silicone broom. I use it on my carpets also, and I find it good for getting cobwebs as well!'

However, opinions were divided as to whether the broom is actually effective or if it's just pulling up some of the carpet fibres along with any dirt. 'Pretty sure that's carpet fibre,' a fellow Kmart shopper commented on the woman's post.

While this particular product may work wonders on carpets or other flooring surfaces in your home, one man cautioned against using it.

'Just a hot tip from someone who's seen so many customers who've ruined their carpet - if the "hair" that the rubber broom or lint shaver keeps ominously pulling out of your carpet doesn't look familiar. It's actually the carpet,' he advised.

He went on to explain: 'The rubber broom creates friction and pulls threads, and the shaver essentially shaves off the top of the pile.'

Key Takeaways

  • A woman in Australia was surprised to find that her carpets were still dirty after using a new $7.50 rubber broom from Kmart for the first time.
  • Many people online were divided on whether the broom is effective or not, with some saying that it may actually be damaging the carpet.
  • However, the woman who originally shared her discovery insists that the dirt and hair she found were real, and not just carpet fibre.

So there you have it – another tool for your cleaning arsenal that may come with some hidden risks! If you do decide to use this product (or anything similar), always test it in an inconspicuous area first before using it liberally.

Best of luck with your shopping finds, everyone – and please let us know how it turns out; we would love to hear from you!
