Ah, the classic wire soap saver! Before washing-up liquid became a household staple, many relied on these handy contraptions filled with a cake of Sunlight or Velvet Soap to tackle the dishes. The wire mesh helped create a lather while making the soap last longer—ingenious, really!

Yes, I used this in washing my children's nappies many years ago, it was the only thing that kept them white and left them allergy free and did not cause nappy rash, I never used detergent on my baby things.

I remember it well in my grandmother's kitchen sink back in the 1940s or so. It was quite effective!

Yep, sure do remember them. My mom had one near the kitchen sink.Contained all the odd pieces of soap from the bathroom ann laundry.
