Why thousands are weeping over Robert Irwin's heart-wrenching video

Robert Irwin has been following in his late father's footsteps since his tragic passing almost 17 years ago.

Recently, the 19-year-old wildlife enthusiast shared a powerful and emotive video on his social media account – garnering over 5.8 million views in less than 24 hours – showing the entire world just how far he’s come.

The video features interview snippets of Robert's father, Steve, talking about how proud he would be and how he saw it as his personal mission to help his children achieve their dreams of following in his footsteps when it came to wildlife conservation.

We have to admit we had to wipe away a few tears and give a few proud smiles during the video; it's no wonder the clip has been pulling heartstrings around the world and leading to a flood of delightful comments.

The footage featured snippets of Steve with young Robert and Bindi interspersed with powerful shots of Robert, all grown up and following in his father's very footsteps and working in the exact same spots at Australia Zoo’s Crocoseum.

Only 17 hours after the clip was shared, hordes of viewers were already singing its praise.

'You and Bindi have definitely made his dream come true. He would be so proud! This is so beautiful,' one said.

While another commented, 'It made me cry so hard. Carry on his legend, friend'.

'The tears in his eyes... that’s just amazing, as if he knew,' wrote one person, while another said, 'Robert and Bindi are making his dreams come true, and he’s so proud'.

Robert captioned the video: 'Continuing Dad’s mission will forever be my greatest honour ❤️.' If you’re interested, you can watch the video below.

It's clear that Steve set a powerful example for his children when it comes to wildlife conservation and the value of family. The video is a touching reminder that although Steve may no longer be with us, his legacy and his family continue to carry on his good work in his stead.

It is worth noting that in May this year, Steve Irwin’s father, Bob, reportedly claimed that he was set to enter a ‘battle’ with his daughter-in-law Terri as he attempts to reclaim Australia Zoo.

The 83-year-old conservationist built the zoo from the ground up in 1970 and passed it on to his late son Steve and his wife Terri back in 1992.

Terri, 58, has stayed on as owner and operator of the world-famous attraction since Steve's death in 2006. However, Bob is allegedly not happy about it.

At the time of reporting, there are no further updates on the family’s dispute.

I remember being at work in aged care when I heard Steve had passed away. So many of the clients were upset and so was I. We used to all enjoy watching his shows. It is not the same without him in the shows. He was a real larrikin but such a passionate wildlife warrior.
