Why did Natalie Barr get an ‘angry text’ on Sunrise? Kochie's reaction reveals all

As many of our Seniors Discount Club members would know, household chores can sometimes take centre stage amidst the daily hustle and bustle of life.

This week, the charming Sunrise star Natalie Barr found herself in an amusing situation at work when an ‘angry text’ came through from her husband regarding the family's recycling rules.

The humorous interaction took place on Wednesday during a segment, fresh off a heartfelt announcement of Kochie's plan to step back from the show.

A true testament to the lively on-air atmosphere and camaraderie the cast shares, Natalie's recycling debacle had fellow hosts chiming in with their own relatable struggles.

‘Alright, we've got to go quickly. Nat’s in trouble,’ Kochie teased viewers at the end of the program.

'She's buggered up the recycling again.’

Caught in the midst of an amusing family incident, Nat smiled sheepishly as she revealed she had just received an ‘angry text on our family chat’ from her husband.

It seems Natalie and her son Hunter face an ongoing dilemma with the recycling process, while Drew, her partner, apparently has no trouble grasping the concept.

Jokingly, Kochie told her, ‘Get home and fix it!’

Natalie laughed and addressed viewers, saying, ‘Sorry to whoever's picking up our bins today. We stuff up the recycling all the time. It's an ongoing family thing... We're always in trouble with my husband, apologies.’

As the conversation quickly shifted to The Morning Show, host Kylie Gillies sympathised with Natalie, admitting that ‘you need a university degree here at work to figure out the recycling’.

‘I get very confused,’ she said.

Her co-host Matt Doran claimed that ‘it is all very puzzling’, which led to a light-hearted discussion amongst the hosts about their confusion with the recycling process.

‘It’s quite specifically labelled,’ Matt said after a bit of banter.

This delightful exchange highlights the relatable dynamics of everyday family life, even for our favourite morning television personalities. It's always nice to remember that we all face similar challenges and even some funny mishaps.

The segment on the show comes around the same time as its beloved long-time co-host, Kochie, has announced his departure from Sunrise.

The announcement was made live on air on Monday’s show, where he told his viewers: ‘Thank you for having me’.

Kochie, who has the honour of being the longest-serving breakfast television host in Australian history, having broadcast a record 16,000 hours of live TV across more than 5,300 shows and some 50,000 interviews, said he was grateful for the privilege of being on the show.

‘I have loved every single minute of my time at Sunrise, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved over the last 21 years’, he said in a statement.

‘I’ve been privileged to experience so many adventures, to meet so many incredible people and to cover so many moments of history in the making. It really is the world’s best job.’

He continued: ‘I reckon I’ve spent more time with them than my family, and it has been an utter joy. I’ll miss the Sunrise viewers who have energised me every single day.’

‘Coming up to 20 consecutive years as Australia’s most-watched breakfast show is a nice moment to exit stage left with an enormous sense of pride and gratitude. Thank you for the privilege.’

He will be stepping away from the show on Friday, June 9. We at the Seniors Discount Club team wish him and his family all the best in the future.

So, what was the recycling debate all about between Natalie & her husband? This article seems to have spent more words on Kochie’s departure!

I get quite annoyed that my husband squashes soft drink cans and milk & other cardboard cartons before putting them in the bin. There are just two of us and our recycling bin is never even 1/4 full after a fortnight - besides that is what the machines do, they squash these things into more compact sizes. Now I don’t even look in the bin to avoid getting annoyed!

"Beloved".. can you please use another adjective? She just a person doing a job and getting paid well. Maybe the local postie or garbo should deserve better accolades... as they serve the community better. Just not promoting paid advertisements..

Yes I still do, like coffee cups (takeaway) are recyclable, but are the lids? And what about yoghurt containers? I know that glass jars and tins can now be put in our recycling bins

The colour of the bins may not have been the issue. It could have been throwing something in as part of another item, perhaps the lid or a plastic seal over a container. And all recyclable items, I believe, these days are supposed to have a symbol and writing over that symbol indicating whether it is recyclable or to go into the rubbish bin.

Take away coffee cups are not recyclable. They have a plastic inner liner. The lids are recyclable. Look for the triangle on the hard plastic products.
