Who remembers Dave Allen?​

Sitting on his high bar stool, a cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other (it looked like whiskey, but was actually ginger ale), he had the kind of presence that made you stop and listen.

No swearing, no shock tactics—just razor-sharp wit, political jabs, and unforgettable stories. He was controversial in his time, but always charming.

Watched him in the Uk with my dad, he was great. Dave Allen that is my dad was good also.

He had half of his index finger on his left hand missing. He joked that it had dissolved in his whiskey because of the way he held his glass. If you look carefully at the picture you can see his missing finger, or more exactly, not see it.

Saturdays were the highlight of the week.

Dinner sat round the table, Dad always cooked on Saturdays giving Mum the day off (he always made such wonderful concoctions from whatever had been left over during the week), then it was into the lounge room as a family for Dixon of Dock Green or Z Cars or The Bill followed by The Dave Allen Show. The chokies or some sort of treat would come out and we'd all settle in together.

I loved his sense of humor, his accent and sometimes his reason for losing part of his finger was he was chewing his nails and forgot to stop. I defied anyone not to laugh at this wonderful man. If only there were some like him now.

Love Dave Allen and his irreverent take on Religion, especially the Reverand Ian Paisley.

When he walked out onto the Sydney Opera House stage pointing to his white/grey hair, the first words out of his mouth were, " You weren’t expecting this, were you?"

At intermission, he said that we were going to have a break, but then just stood there, smirking, as he always did. Naturally, none of the very confused audience moved.

"Go on, out you go", but again just stood there, still smirking.

Then he left the stage and people started to depart. As they stood up, he'd return to the stage...and they'd all go back and sit down again. He repeated this a couple of times, with a smirk.

What a character...with his whiskey, smokes and half missing finger.

I remember one I had to go Whakatane in New Zealand, when I got there My missus at the time had taken out to one of there rellies so there was just Ma in law and. At the time there was only tv station and they happened to have a Dave Allen show, but I digress? the next morning Ma's neighbour came across to see why she wasn't invited to the party as she had heard the laughter, she was a bit taken aback when found out that was just me laughing at Allen's show. He was without doubt one of the funniest comedians and still is, even though he died in 05.

I loved his humor of stating the obvious. My mother loved him so we got tickets to see him live at the The Seymour Centre in 1990, unfortunately mum broke her leg and couldn't come. so we took my then husbands 12 year old brother. It was a great show but was really shocked at the language (only because of the 12 year old we had taken). Was so sadd when he passed away.
