Who is the 'drive-by-pooper'? Locals release CCTV images in search of the mystery defecator

We like to think that, as people who deal with and read a lot of news daily, we've already seen and heard it all. But every now and then, something comes along that even we can't wrap our heads around.
Such is the case with the recent story of the so-called 'drive-by pooper', who was caught on CCTV relieving himself in a laneway in Sydney's inner-west – right next to people's homes! Ew…
It was an unpleasant surprise that no one in the Sydney suburb of Stanmore wanted to wake up to. On Tuesday morning, residents discovered human faeces in a laneway just metres away from homes.
CCTV captured both the disgusting act and the perpetrator, with images later shared on a community Facebook page, where they have since gone viral. The inner-city mystery has sparked widespread community outrage, with locals determined to track down the man responsible and hold him accountable for his mess.

According to the CCTV images, a Toyota Corolla hatchback pulled over on Salisbury Lane around 4:45 am on Tuesday. A man got out of the car and stood between the wall of a house and his vehicle before dropping his light-coloured trousers.
Then, he squatted down and relieved himself in full view of any passing cars or pedestrians (not that there were many around at that time of day!) before hastily pulling up his pants and jumping back into his vehicle.
He drove off moments later, leaving behind an unwanted 'present' for someone else to deal with. Disgusting!
The story has since caused widespread community outrage, with many locals taking to social media to share their disgust at the unidentified man's actions.
'If you know who this person is, please let him know to clean up their own mess as it is still there,' one furious woman wrote in a Facebook post, with another resident commenting: 'It is very disappointing that the Stanmore neighbourhood has to deal with this unhygienic issue.'
One local even thought he should have used the toilets at Stanmore McDonalds, which are only 600 metres away from where the man was spotted.
However, some residents tried to defend the individual, saying that the full story should be known before jumping to conclusions. 'The guy may have had an upset stomach,' one person argued.

It's not clear yet whether Sydney police will get involved in tracking down the mystery pooper, but Stanmore locals seem pretty determined to find him themselves (or at least make sure he thinks twice before doing something like this again).
In NSW, acting indecently when in or near a public area, within earshot of a school, or while in plain view of those areas, constitutes 'offensive' behaviour. The law says that someone's behaviour is offensive if it hurts someone's feelings or makes a reasonable person angry, disgusted, resentful, or outraged.
In the same vein, defecating in public is considered extremely offensive behaviour. A police officer may issue a penalty notice or an on-the-spot fine of $500 to someone who violates NSW's laws regarding offensive behaviour.
So what do you think of this story? Do you agree that the police should be involved in this case, or is this something the local residents should deal with? Let us know in the comments!
