As temperatures drop, many Australians survive chilly days by embracing their beloved puffer jackets. These warm and cosy garments have become a popular winter wardrobe choice across the country.

Originally designed in the 1930s to help humans survive harsh, freezing weather conditions, puffer jackets are now a go-to choice for many Aussies, whether heading to the local pub, taking the family dog for a morning stroll or going out on a dinner date.

Both women and men of various ages have embraced the fluffy marshmallow-like attire, making it an iconic and versatile staple in winter wardrobes.

The substantial demand has led many retailers to produce their versions of puffer jackets, from ALDI to Kathmandu, with prices ranging from pocket-friendly to luxury splurges.

However, with so many brands to choose from, a heated debate has arisen, dividing Australians on which puffers truly deserve the tip of the hat.

A popular social media account, The Aussie Corporate, fueled the fire by boldly ranking Australia’s puffer jackets, creating chaos and leaving many Aussies questioning their winter outfit choices.

The account ranked several popular brands in categories: best, luxury, mid, low, and even the 'get in the bin' section.

So, which puffers made it to the top of the list?

According to The Aussie Corporate's ranking, Patagonia was listed as the top puffer jacket brand. ALDI ranked last, followed closely by Macpac, Kathmandu, and Columbia. Another chart assessed the value of the puffer jackets by comparing their cost to their perceived popularity. Source: Instagram

According to the social media account The Aussie Corporate, the Patagonia jacket can proudly boast of being the most iconic and beloved puffer.

Luxury options like Canada Goose, Moncler, and Brunello Cucinelli were also praised, receiving the stamp of approval for those with a more lavish budget.

Other well-known brands like R.M Williams, Gant, and Arc'teryx found their place among the top-ranked jackets.

That sounds like a pretty well-rounded list, right? Well, not everyone agreed when the mid-tier brands were revealed.

Surprisingly, some big names like North Face, Gazman, Ralph Lauren, UNIQLO, and lululemon were ranked only at the mid-level, leaving many lovers of these brands feeling confused and betrayed.

The real controversy, however, emerged when brands such as Columbia, Kathmandu, and Macpac were ranked low while ALDI's version of the puffer jacket was sadly told to 'get in the bin’.

As expected, many didn't hold back their contrasting opinions, rushing to the comment section to express their concerns and defend their favourite puffer brands.

Some argued that 'Kathmandu should be higher than UNIQLO.' while others criticised the ranking of R.M Williams as being 'about as Top as a 6-cylinder Holden Kingswood’.

Since one wants warmth without weight, suggest purchasing a heated one, usually available at reputable tools supplier stores. $250. Beautiful and warm, c/w charger and 12 volt battery. Makita, Dewalt, are 2 brands that I'm aware of. Pocket warming or back and chest or can use all together by a switch. 2 batteries last all day and aren't prohibitive in price and easily gettable. You'll have that coat for years.

I have a Khatmandu full length down coat that is too small, size 16, please private message me if wanting to buy

Is going to be missed, you only need a T-shirt underneath, and you’re toast as.

Don't see the fuss about puffer jackets. All they do is make you look like half (or more depending on the length) the Michelin man!

They look ridiculous and should be thrown back in the vault with everything 1980's and forgotten.

Love my aldi puffer . end of season 90% down for $29.99 . beat that ripoffs LOL LOL LOL

I have a Canadian Weather Puffa Jacket and it’s awesome. It it’s now way too big for me to wear, so now I have a short BIGW one and a full length Katies one. It took me a while to get on board with the puffa jackets but now I love them

I have a knee length Macpac Puffer Jacket - yep I do look like the Michelin Man, but it is super warm and cosy. So warm in fact that I have had to take it off, when everyone else around me is “freezing cold”. Like the old adage “you only get what you pay for”, this jacket was over $300.00, but it was a gift!!

i didn't think @ my age I would worry about brands & looking like a Michelin tyre, but with trying to keep warm & putting up the temp of my gas heater, I am home all day looking like a roly-poly in my several puffers & the heater is down low. TRY IT. There is an answer to everything in life.
