I actually had a neighbor with that surname. True !
 
Didn't they invent deed polls for that purpose?
 
One of my sisters in law bought a shop but would not put her surname Adcock over the door.
 
A girl I used to work with was engaged and refused to get married until her boyfriend changed his surname. It was Smellie, he did change it, to Smillie.
 
The only way I can remember the names of the first fliers to fly across the Atlantic, was by the the name the "two queens"! ( Alcock and Brown. )

My Sydney based golf club holds an annual mixed pairs (man & woman) championship event. A few years ago the winning team was Alcock and Dick!
 
I used to know an electrician name Woodcock, his nickname was splinter Dick.
