I use what's app everyday . We have a family what's app group which includes aunts, cousins ect .
Then we have a group with just me and all my kids.
I also have a cooking group which I post recipes and is where my sister inlaw will send me recipes.

Any photos we share once I click on them they are saved to my phones gallery .

I only use WhatsApp with one person, so I don't have much data to save. However I've set my backup to 'never' as recommended. Easy to do!
 
Don't use WhatsApp and honesty prevails when I tell you I don't know anything about it.
My phone is quite basic compared to others. I don't even take selfies.
I wouldn't be without it when it comes to text messaging and managing appointments and tasks, however, I think the way technology is steaming ahead it may well explode in everyone's face before too long.
I have nothing against modern technology, I just don't believe it to be the centre of my universe.

NEVER used it and never had the inkling to be bothered with it.

Well they are pushing RCS (available since 2008) because APPLE is going RCS next year and ANDROID and APPLE users wont need imperatively WHATSAPPS to communicate securely with each other. Now it is debatable as what is the "best, most secure system"system and what level of encryption is necessary. I have given the good news to my Apple friends :)...not too sure they are thrilled (they still, at least for a while, will be able to use their inhouse system) but we ANDROID users wont have to deal with their quirky system using another roundabout app
