What's this bizarre $2000 mistake? Woman discovers a ‘surprise’ in her online order from Kmart

While we here at the Seniors Discount Club are all about encouraging our members to make the most of ordering online and the amazing convenience it brings, it's also no secret that things can sometimes go wrong with online shopping.

From wrong sizes being sent to receiving different items than expected, not everything is smooth sailing.

But for one Kmart customer, her online shopping experience turned out to be much more than a minor hiccup.

When she opened her package from Kmart, she discovered an unexpected surprise that quickly escalated into a bizarre mystery worth thousands of dollars.

The woman, known only as Avoca, shared the startling find with the Kmart Hacks and Decor Facebook page, where the post soon went viral.

Upon opening her order, she discovered a warehouse barcode scanner safely nestled among her purchased items.

‘Found this when I opened up my order!’ The woman wrote.

In the photo accompanying her post, the device could easily be mistaken for a mobile device at first glance. However, thanks to tech-savvy commenters, it was quickly identified as a barcode scanner worth thousands of dollars.

The reactions to her post were a mix of amusement, disbelief, and concern, with many people offering their own suggestions and opinions on what she should do with it.

‘Now you can check what is in stock in the comfort of your own home,’ one user joked.

Another chimed in with, ‘You can change prices on your next visit!' while yet another user suggested that Avoca sell the barcode scanner back to Kmart or ask them to provide a ‘finder’s fee’.

‘That’s an expensive mistake,’ one wrote, while another user called the blunder a ‘rookie error’.

Other users commented on the potential repercussions for the employee responsible for the mistake.

‘That employee will be in trouble if you don't send it back,’ warned one member, while another questioned, ‘I bet the worker was like, where the f*** is my scanner?!’

Despite the humour, many urged Avoca to return the scanner. As one user pointed out, the device likely has a built-in GPS, meaning that Kmart might be able to track its whereabouts.

‘They would love to have it back. It’s an expensive item,’ one shared.

‘I’d call the store and organise them to pick it up,’ another commented.

In response to the mounting advice, Avoca updated her post, saying she had contacted Kmart to discuss the situation. Surprisingly, the store seemed in no rush to reclaim its expensive equipment.

‘I've rung them, and they said to just bring it in the next time I go to a store,’ she shared.

‘They don't seem in a hurry to get it back, and I'm not planning on going to Kmart anytime soon!’

I would be the where the f**k did I put my scanner person! LOL I misplace thing so easily. My worst is going crazy looking for my reading glasses, and I'm actually wearing them!

After making a click an collect purchase from Kmart and making payment, I received an email from Kmart to say part of my purchase was coming from another store so would take longer to arrive. I was given the option of doing a part collection and then doing another collection, or I could wait until I was notified that the whole order was ready for pick up. This is what I chose to do, after all why make two trips when one will do? My next notification from Kmart said the order had been cancelled and my money was returned to PayPal. No explanation, no nothing. Not happy with their lack of service and communication.

Of course, this IS Kmart Australia we're talking about with the scanner included?

Yeah, they do this often. They mark everything as available but as they pack the order they find it isn't. So they basically cancel and refund it, usually with no explanation
