What's the real reason behind Michael Rowland's sudden break from ABC Breakfast?

In the world of television, the only constant thing is change. Celebrities, TV presenters, and other on-screen stars come and go, and each time beloved media personalities suddenly announce a break or an exit, it leaves their fans a bit confused and worried.

That's precisely what happened when Michael Rowland from ABC Breakfast revealed that he’d be taking a break from the show.

During Wednesday morning's episode, co-host of News Breakfast, Michael Rowland, announced that he was ‘off on a break’.

At the end of the show, the journalist revealed that while he is away, finance presenter Madeleine Morris would join his co-host ‘for the next little while’.

The sudden revelation sparked a range of speculations, leaving fans concerned that something more serious was going on.

While his fellow TV hosts sent him heartfelt wishes, Rowland expressed his gratitude towards the program's viewers.

He said, 'You've been fabulous for the show in the time I've been on the show. It's been great presenting to you, and if it weren't for you, the viewers, none of us would be here doing what we do. It's been a real honour.’

However, amid all the well-wishes, Morris expressed her concerns that his tone 'sounded final’. She then asked if he was coming back to the show.

Following this, several media reports began speculating that Rowland was stepping down from his role permanently, especially in the wake of his colleague Stan Grant's departure from the public broadcaster due to ongoing racial abuse and partisan attacks in the media.

‘Racism is a crime. Racism is violence. And I have had enough,’ Grant wrote in a column last week explaining his decision.

Rowland had been among the high-profile media personalities that spoke up against the treatment of his colleague.

However, the story behind Rowland’s leave isn’t as serious as it seems.

According to ABC, ‘Michael is going on a long-planned holiday he booked months ago’ and will be back on TV on June 26.

But the chaos that unfolded regarding his break had nearly escalated out of control. To clarify the situation, Rowland took to social media to explain that everything was just a misunderstanding.

He wrote, ‘Well, that escalated quickly... Just taking some long-scheduled leave. I will be back on News Breakfast in late June. Look forward to seeing you then!’

In the meantime, Rowland has been active in lending his support to Stan Grant following Grant’s closing remarks on Monday night’s Q&A program.

He said in a social media post, ‘Racism is a scourge. We all need to do better in calling it out, and that includes the ABC. Take care, Stan.’

‘I am down, but I will get back up. And you can come at me again, and I will meet you with the love of my people,’ Grant said before challenging the media to do better.

‘Don’t mistake our love for weakness. It is our strength. We have never stopped loving and fighting for justice and truth.’

With all due respect to Stan Grant, and I understand and strongly believe that racism is an abhorrent crime and also strongly believe that racism should be a punishable offence but not just against our Indigenous Australians but also when 1 race abuses another race/culture no matter from which culture other people come from. However, in my opinion Stan Grant is once again raising his racism flag as an excuse for his, in my humble opinion, inept ability to become someone with the ability to perform as an alleged media star should. I for one, and I am probably in the minority, am glad that Stan Grant has left the ABC, an organisation which has bent backwards to support all cultures and races.

I hope Michael comes back fresh & rested from his break. It is sad that Stan Grant feels that the ABC did not support him enough. He should not be subject to racist attacks online…EVER. This rule though applies to all. When Stan comments that “….whiteness is a curse….” WHO is he speaking about? Along with BLM style activists he is targeting EVERY ANGLO-Australia in particular. No matter how many apologies, reconciliation acts, funding or reparations the “truth-telling” will continue to insist that the ENGLISH ALONE came here to commit GENOCIDE. Nothing more, nothing less. Stan should walk in our shoes. We are branded as murderers to this day and racially vilified as much as his people are! Even our P.M. insults Anglo-Australians because he used federal funds to pay for the Opera House & Bridge to be lit up for P.M. Modi & Indian-Australians but did not do the same for Australia’s head of state for his coronation. There’s a meaningful slap in the face for us white English scum!

Nobody should be subject to racial abuse that's a certainty. Stan Grant said that the Crown was a theft of aboriginal land. America gets the same response from their native Indians, where they state their land was stolen as well. I guess it will be forever in their minds. Our convict ancestors who came here would probably agree that they shouldn't have been sent here.
Stan Grant makes it harder for himself being so vocal about it, so it would be open to discussion, but should never become abuse by people hiding behind their keyboards.

Name a land that has NOT been “ invaded”, “colonised” or “taken over” in the course of humanity’s history. Does that mean that I should still be harbouring hatred for the Vikings, Gauls, Saxons, Normans, Romans, Spanish etc and their descendants who invaded the land of my birth? Our indigenous peoples were traumatised too. Do I claim ongoing intergenerational hurt ad infinitum? I am all for proper recognition of indigenous peoples but punishing whites for all the faults of past, present & future generations is not the answer. If Aboriginal people cannot forgive the mistakes of the past there is no future for any Australian citizen. Just endless recriminations. Albanese said the “voice” is about respect. That must be why ANYONE who asks a question is called a racist, a bigot, a person without respect for indigenous peoples, a bedwetter, a coloniser, a murderer, a rapist. In Stan Grant’s words, this is how fellow Australians are approached in “love”. “Whiteness is a curse”… So as a cursed white person may I suggest that when the referendum gets up all people who voted NO should be deported, especially those English scum! Albanese will be free to set up HIS Republic in which there is no guarantee that Aboriginal peoples will hold sway!
