We would play across the road in the trees, there was a small creek that run though them, with a dam for deeper water. We had a rope swing going over the creek. I suppose it would be about a metre wide at that point. So you climbed a small hill grabbed the rope put the knot between your legs or just hung on, pushed off over the creek and let go, hoping to land safely on the other side. The inevitable often happen and we would end up in the creek.
I think my mother was very happy when we all grew up, I had one younger sister and five brothers with three being older. I was the middle child with four years on each side to my siblings. I spent alot of time with my older brothers.
We also had a Billy cart that we run down the hill, no brakes of course except for shoes or just feet.
We must have grown up in the same place -cause - we did the same things. No brakes Billy Carts and down the creek sailing canoes, catching yabbies, swimming and of course swinging off ropes and dropping into the water holes. Safety seemed to take a back seat.
And marbles. I couldn’t play to save myself - I would loose them and my neighbour Carol, would run through the marble rings at school, pick up marbles in her toes, and keep running, and give them back to me. What a champ.

As Children, we had loads of fun and giggles playing " road parcels" which comprised wrapping a Brick with Brown Paper, writing a made up Person and address on it and tying up with String. We would place the parcel on the road and hide behind the Fence. Whenever a Car would stop we would hell out ""Ever been had" and wait for the response which was mainly a good laugh or, occasionally, a bjt of cussing. Good fun.

Born in England and we had forests of huge trees with large brown nuts with a spikey case like chestnuts but larger. We used to drill a hole through them and push a piece of string through tie a large knot at the bottom. The game was to hold the string with the nut about 12 inches below and a friend would swing his nut at yours and the nut that did not break was the winner we called it conkers.

Its so true that a lot of our favourite games were outdoors and active. I can relate to a lot of the games other members have written about. I think the best thing was we didn't have a lot of expensive toys but we had so much fun. My brother and I also collected Matchbox cars and had quite a collection. I also played jacks (similar to knuckle bones) but they were small metal star shaped pieces. If the weather was bad or at night we had board games such as draughts, snakes and ladders, Chinese checkers etc.

I loved elastics and when there was no one to play it with I would use two chairs. But my mum was forever going off at me for raiding her precious sewing box. Did anyone elses mum sew their clothes? Mine did, all the way to my knickers, they were horrible baggy things though, and being an old fashioned English mother she would be forever ironing.
I also loved skippy with the big ropes, sometimes we'd use two of them and you had to jump in and out.
Oh the memories ❤️
