What was the most outrageous lie that you believed as a child?

Ooooh, we're due for another chat, dear members! For this week's get-to-know-each-other session, the question is... What was the most outrageous lie that you believed as a child?

This is quite embarrassing, but back when I was a kid, I would always grab condoms during trips to the pharmacy and ask my mom to buy them for me as they looked like lollies. She would then yank it away from my hands and explain that they were a type of lolly only adults could eat. Now that I'm an adult, I laugh every time she shares this story with my friends and relatives to embarrass me. I think it was a pretty outrageous lie, but certainly one that makes for a good story.

How about you? I'd love to hear your stories in the comments!

The most outrageous lie that I believed as a child? That there was a god, who if I didn't love him unconditionally, would torture me for eternity in a lake of fire. The very definition of an abusive relationship. Thankfully, I grew out of it (and religion) as an adult.

If you swallowed apple core and pips you would grow an apple tree out your ears of all places, don't swallow chewing gum cause you could blow a bubble out your bum, they are the ones I remember the most.

Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus

That my mother's husband was my father! I didn't learn the truth until I was 41! A BAD LIE.

Swallow chewing gum it will stick to your heart. Black people were black because they ate too much licorice. When you go to hell they throw fire at you. Thunder was god moving his furniture. Only bad people were struck by lightening.

Santa. Enough said. Lol

It may have been a lie but I loved it when there was thunder and lightning as that was the trolls that lived in the clouds bowling with huge boulders and when they got a strike there was the lightning. Continued to tell my children and grandies and not one of them feared thunderstorms.

I was told eat your carrots they are good for your eyes !

I wasn't told about God , didn't go to church but I was glad I grew up and found God myself and saw that he is a loving God ❤️

My dad used to tell me that the car had retro-rockets. Dad would sneakily drop the car down a gear and the car would slowdown and the engine revved up without his foot on the brake. Being young and niave, I climbed under the front of the car looking for those retro-rockets quite a few times.

That on 20th July 1969 Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. I actually watched the apparent event on our 19" Pye TV "live"
