What did this Coles shopper find in their ‘special delivery’?

Australia’s major supermarkets are not usually the ones to be trending on social media, let alone generating praise from shoppers.

However, that is exactly what happened when Coles shoppers began sharing images of the ‘special surprise’ they received as a complimentary gesture from the retail giant.

Coles Plus members who signed up for the loyalty subscription program, which costs $19 a month, can get a surprise-free delivery around Christmas time.

One such shopper shared what they scored in their bundle, which included drinks, crackers, chocolate and chips in a generous list of products—all for free.

The member explained that they received an email that said:

‘We believe in always giving more to our Coles Plus members, and that’s why this festive season a surprise delivery is coming your way.’

‘Your Coles Plus gift box will include the below products to enjoy, all for free,’ it continued.

According to the member, the products in the gift box included:
Note: Items received by customers may differ, and some may be subject to availability.

The surprise gesture from the supermarket was met with a mix of reactions online, with many questioning the motive behind the gift box.

‘Your box is so much better than what I got,’ said one shopper.

‘Wonder if Woolies will follow for Everyday Extras members,’ commented another.

Several others have also reported receiving a similar email, but they haven’t received a gift box yet.

‘I’ve gotten two emails and no boxes,’ one woman shared.

‘I got an email saying I was getting stuff (different to this list) but never came,’ another wrote.

The exact details and eligibility of the promotion are still uncertain at this time.

Backlash

Coles, among other retailers, has faced criticism this year over skyrocketing product prices. Interestingly, this comes at a time when these businesses are recording billion-dollar profits.

A telling comparison of Coles receipts from different times has further underscored the harsh reality of today’s supermarket prices.

The retailer attributes price hikes to global events like the Ukraine conflict and local incidents such as the NSW floods, as well as rising costs of labour, freight, and packaging. More details about this story can be read here.

@Nichola I have a severe allergy to cucumbers and related vegetables. It's due to an enzyme called profilin which causes me to poo and spew uncontrollably until there's nothing left. The only time I ate them was over 45 years ago when I lost 9 kgs in five days.
😢😢
