Sean Penn is a highly respected and amazing actor. It may be possible that his appearance could be as a result of some underlying medical condition. I know of several close friends añd family members, who appear to have virtualy aged over night, so to speak, who look much older than they are and who are almost unrecognisable from a distance. In each case, the friend and family members, who appeared to have aged so fast, were diagnosed with an illness that required immediate medication. It turns out that the explanation for the quick age process was as a result of side affects produced by the prescribed medication. These side affects were, loss of muscle tone and thining of hair. We can only hope that Sean Penns appearance is mildly stress related and not an underlying medical condition.

You only had to look at recent photo's of Gene Hackman before his passing. You wouldn't recognise him at all.

Perhaps society is so used to seeing all the plastic, botox filled actors with facelifts, bum lifts, fake boobs and whatever - it is surprising to see an actor who has aged naturally, albeit quite hard. He would probably clean up pretty well. Good for him he hasn't succumbed to what everyone can see is so false.

It’s more what he’s not doing to himself i.e. plastic surgery, like so many others in Hollywood. Yes he looks older than his age but it really is none of our business how he chooses to present himself. As Novezar commented he may have a medical condition. I have aged dramatically because of a medical condition & just pray this is not the case for him.

He looks like he has given the grog a good nudge and the smokes, reminds me of a couple very lovely family members. Great humans, but sadly the grog and smokes have taken a toll in the ageing process.
