I have been making this since the 80s for those special occasions.
A watermelon basket is perfect for any sort of get to together. Sure, a big bowl of fruit salad looks great, but stick it in a watermelon basket and people flock to it. I’m talking BBQs, dinner parties, christmas ect

Ingredients
1 whole watermelon

You will have 1/2 the watermelon Melon left I will often make watermelon juice with leftovers

What do you need to make a watermelon basket?
- Sharp Knife
- Melon Baller – to scoop out the flesh into balls.
- 2 Elastic Bands – to help guide the carving.
Ingredients
1 whole watermelon
- 1 small or 1/2 of a Pineapple cut into bite size pieces
- 3 Kiwi fruit sliced, I also halve one or two
- 1 cup Strawberries halved, quartered
- Blueberries left whole
- 4 Passion Fruit scooped out plus leave 1 or 2 whole
- Inside of watermelon made into balls you will only use 1/2 of the Melon ( see below
- Grab your Watermelon and wrap two elastic bands around it, one horizontal and one vertical, both crossing directly in the centre
- Carefully slice approx 1/2" either side of the top elastic band to form the handle. Slice directly along the middle elastic band and remove both of the chunks.
- Slice away the flesh from underneath the handle, then use a melon baller to remove the flesh from the watermelon

Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl combine all the fruit minus the half passionfruit/kiwi fruit. Place in the fridge to chill.

- Combine watermelon balls in a bowl with your prepared fruit, pour back into the watermelon and garnish with fresh mint optional. Add the passionfruit and kiwi fruit halves in top of fruit abd decorate with a couole of mint leaves then serve up and enjoy!
