Watch out, The Block! Channel Seven's newest rival renovation show aims to claim the top-ratings throne

There's nothing we love more than a good dose of home renovations! There's something incredibly satisfying about transforming a space into something that reflects our personal style and taste.

Whether it's a complete home overhaul or a small room renovation, the process of creating a beautiful and functional space can be truly inspiring. Many of us even take on DIY projects ourselves!

And when it comes to finding inspiration and satisfaction, reality renovation shows take the cake. For years, we've avidly followed Channel Nine's The Block, finding immense joy in witnessing the transformations and creative endeavours showcased on the program.

But it looks like a new rival is stepping up to claim the top-ratings throne, with Channel Seven announcing their very own renovation reality show – Dream Home!

Channel Seven's upcoming renovation reality show, Dream Home, is set to give Nine's popular program, The Block, a run for its money. The show is expected to hit Australian TV screens in 2024 with a format that has been successful in New Zealand.

The show's concept revolves around couples competing against each other to transform run-down properties into their dream homes. One of the unique aspects of the show is the tight timeline provided to the teams, with just one weekend given to renovate each area of the house.

This aspect of the competition is sure to keep the contestants on their toes as they strive to create the best possible outcome in such a limited timeframe.

The teams will be judged based on workmanship, design aspects, and completion, with the judges scrutinising every detail. Viewers will also have the opportunity to participate by voting for their favourite rooms. They can call the show's number or send a text message to cast their vote.

At the end of the competition, the final live show will reveal the overall winner. The victorious team will walk away with the Dream Home they have built, fully furnished, and the second-place team will receive the furnishings and a deposit to enable them to bid for the house at auction.

One of the exciting aspects of Dream Home is that aspiring contestants do not require any prior experience in the building or trade industry. Instead, what matters most is having a keen eye for design and a willingness to roll up their sleeves and put in the hard work. This opens up the opportunity for a wide range of participants who may have a passion for home renovations but lack professional expertise.

The winning couple of Dream Home can anticipate a truly luxurious transformation of their dream home, all at no financial cost to them. Alongside the stunning makeover, the show offers an unspecified 'life-changing' cash prize, adding an element of intrigue and excitement to the competition.

According to TV Blackbox, a Nine source has confirmed that Dream Home will 'update' the original format from NZ.

As casting for Dream Home is currently underway, the official host for the reality series has not yet been confirmed; however, rumours are already circulating. It is speculated that Dr Chris Brown, a former Channel Ten presenter who recently joined Channel Seven, could potentially take on the hosting duties for it.

The TV personality first rose to fame in 2008 as the host of the popular show Bondi Vet. In February, it was announced that Dr Brown, who had been with Channel Ten since 2008 and hosted I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! since its inception, had signed a multi-year deal with Channel Seven.

This transition to a new network sparked speculation about his involvement in other programs, including the possibility of hosting Dream Home.

In a farewell message to viewers last month, Dr Brown bid adieu to I'm A Celebrity, expressing his gratitude for the experience and describing it as 'the greatest professional privilege' of his life, alongside co-host Julia Morris.

Dream Home promises to bring a fresh perspective and exciting new format to the home renovation reality show genre, and we can't wait to tune in and see how it unfolds!

Key Takeaways

  • Dream Home, Channel Seven's upcoming renovation reality show set to air in 2024, will rival Channel Nine's The Block.
  • Based on a successful New Zealand format, the show will feature couples competing to transform dilapidated properties into their dream homes within tight weekend timelines.
  • Casting is underway, and while the host has yet to be confirmed, rumours suggest that former Channel Ten presenter Dr Chris Brown may take on the role.

Obviously, after flipping houses for many years and having a passion for interior design, I will look forward to watching this new show.
I used to enjoy the House Rules show on Channeo 7 until they started having the one "bitchy" couple in each show.
It turned me right off.
Same thing with The Block, always someone chucking a sad and going to leave. Seems to be a running theme in all reality shows. Just get on with the show and cut the BS.

We still watch the block, but now, only after recording so I can fast forward through the judging idiocy. 3 designers, all judges. It is like chalk on a black board for me.
I have been saying for years, the judging should be 1 for design, 1 for workmanship and another for sale value.
Looks like 7 might be on a good thing if this comes to light.
As far as Dr Chris goes, if only I was 30 years younger. He's my chesty bond man and Ill be happy to watch him on any channel.

"Dream Home"?
"Tell em' they're dreamin'."

Then again, that yoyo on Blow Up who played the part of the warb son in The Castle will be looking for a new gig fairly soon after the balloons pop, so you never know.......

Ah, yessssss ... Channel 7's come up with another "original", in exactly the same way as they trumpeted that they were showing the Apollo XI moon landing as an "original" despite the fact that just about every TV channel in the known universe was putting it on at the same time. We need this like another hole in the head, to quote an old saying. And you'd have to have one to sit through the manufactured crises that are bound to arise in these crap shows.

In stead of spending thousands and thousands on renovating one home why can't they spend a modest sum each, renovating several homes for Aussie battlers. To my mind that would be a far better use of resources and be something worth watching. :)
