According to Food Standards Australia, the recall was issued because the product contained foreign material, which was subsequently determined to be plastic.
The majority of small amounts of plastic that people accidentally ingest will be expelled from their bodies within a day or two, as the body works to naturally eliminate contaminants. However, frequent plastic consumption may have adverse effects.
The chemicals that are found in plastic have a good chance of entering our bodies through contaminated products or food that has been heated in a microwave.
Ingestion of some of these chemicals may result in a variety of health problems, including asthma, cancer, premature birth, miscarriage, infertility in men, and abnormal sexual development, amongst others.

To avoid plastic ingestion, you'll need to do more than just avoid eating products that have been wrapped in plastic.
Instead, you should also consider thinking about using fewer plastic products and making recycling a regular part of your routine. A very modest move towards the goal of saving our planet!
