It’s a scene that would cause even the most composed of us to rub our eyes in disbelief.
Footage has emerged of a wild altercation in a Coles car park in Hampton, Melbourne, last Friday.
For most of us, this situation is unlikely to escalate beyond name-calling. After all, we're reasonable adults, and generally speaking, we’re able to resolve disputes without resorting to violence.
However, it seems that not everyone follows these rules...
In the video shared on TikTok, a bystander can be seen confronting a motorist following an accident between the two in a busy supermarket car park.
The clip begins with a man erratically driving a red Honda Civic as he slams into a parked silver car while attempting to park on a pedestrian crossing near the supermarket.
Several shoppers can be seen watching in horror as the incident unfolded.
'That's pretty close to your car, mate,' one man says, pointing out the ‘close call’ to a fellow bystander.
The distressed dad decides to get involved, approaching the driver and telling him that he had crashed into the parked car.
The tattooed driver, who is also wearing an orange hi-vis vest, shouts: 'F*** off, dog!' in response to the bystander’s comment. The worried father clarifies by saying, 'Mate, you can't be driving.'
Unfortunately, the angered tradie immediately reversed into another parked car and took off instead of owning up to his mistake – leaving the bystander to shake his head and bewildered shoppers in his wake.
The video, which has since gone viral with nearly 1.5 million views, captured the attention of many users, with people shocked by the violent incident.
One user wrote: 'Oh, mate, you really tried, you did a great job here. Can't be easy to confront someone like that. My hat off to you.'
'When you’re a 40 year old boomer with two kids you don't want to confront people like this anymore,' the father responded.
Others criticised the father for getting involved in the dispute.
One comment read: 'Best not to confront. Just call 000. He ain't listening. Good job getting video.'
In a statement provided to Mashable, Victoria Police confirmed that they're aware of the road rage incident and are currently investigating the matter.
No arrests or charges have been made yet.
Victorian Police urged anyone who witnessed the car crash or has footage of it to get in touch with Crime Stoppers immediately.
This incident just goes to show that, even in a seemingly ordinary car park, potentially dangerous situations can occur.
So while it can be tempting, members, it’s important to be aware of your safety and not put yourself at risk by confronting a potentially dangerous person.
