WARNING: Recalled Woolworths cheese and Garmin smartwatches might be putting YOU at risk!

Many of us love cheese as it makes the perfect accompaniment to crackers, fruit, and all sorts of other snacks.

But this week news has come out about certain batches of cheese that have been sold in Woolworths nationwide that might be putting you and your family at risk of listeria contamination, an infectious bacteria that can cause serious illness.

Two 125g Camembert cheeses—the Unicorn Classic Camembert from Snowbrand Australia (trading as Unicorn Cheese) and Community Co’s French Style Camembert—have been recalled over possible microbial contamination, specifically Listeria monocytogenes.

Both brands with affected items had Best Before dates of November 8, 2023, and belong to Batch 123123E Est No 287.

These items have been available for sale in Woolworths stores in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, and Tasmania, as well as independent stores like Natures Best, V & C Food Distributors, Bills Cheese and Yoghurts in NSW, and Our United Food Co in Queensland.

A few independent stores such as IGAs in Victoria and Queensland have also stocked these cheeses.

A statement from Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) said: 'Listeria may cause illness in … the elderly and people with low immune systems.'

'Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.'

If you or someone you know has bought any of these affected Camembert cheeses, you may contact Snowbrand Australia (Unicorn Cheese) on 02 4423 1266 for more information.

In similar news, Garmin, a brand known for its extensive lineup of fitness trackers and smartwatches, has issued a recall for two of their smartwatch models—the Garmin Venu 2 Plus and Garmin D2 Air X10—due to a potentially dangerous software glitch.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) explained that the light-emitting diode (LED) light sensor used for heart rate monitoring can overheat and cause the watch to short circuit.

According to the recall notice, the overheating can lead to skin irritation or blisters on the area underneath the watch.

This software glitch impacts Garmin Venu 2 Plus watches sold between November 8, 2021 and August 25, 2023, and Garmin D2 Air X10 watches sold from January 24, 2022 and August 25, 2023.

To correct the defect, the software of affected watches should be immediately updated.

'Consumers should connect/sync their affected Garmin smartwatch with the Garmin Connect mobile app to receive this update,' the ACCC explained.

If the update is successful, the device should show the following software versions:
  • For Non-APAC Models: SW version 15.20 or later and Sensor version 25.80 or later.
  • For APAC Models: SW version 13.16 or later and Sensor version 25.80 or later.
Customers can contact Garmin on 1800 244 143 (select Option 3, then Option 1 for Garmin); or email [email protected] for more information.
