There's nothing more comforting than a delicious bowl of creamy, decadent yoghurt. But whether it's greek, natural, or flavoured - make sure you check updates on reports on product recalls as fermented foods like yoghurt can be prone to contamination.
Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) reported that a popular yoghurt brand is recalling its Caramel Crumble Yoghurt over E.coli contamination concerns.
At the moment, the Caramel Crumble Yoghurt product, sold in 190g tubs, is available only at Coles in South Australia and the Northern Territory; IGA stores in SA and the NT; and variable OTR (On The Run) outlets in SA.
The product has a best-before date of January 23, 2023, and consumers are being urged to check the date and return the product if any matching tubs are found.
Food Standards Australia issued a statement regarding the recall, explaining: 'E. coli is a type of bacteria that can be found in the intestines of humans and animals. In some cases, certain strains can cause severe illness.'
'The most common way that people get infected is by eating food that has been contaminated, which may lead to stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, or bloody diarrhoea.'
Additionally, young children and the elderly are the most vulnerable to the health risks associated with the consumption of this bacteria. And in severe cases, it can result in kidney failure.
E. coli infections can range in intensity and typically last a week.
So, if you've already consumed the product, please seek medical advice right away.
Everyone affected by this recall announcement is entitled to a full refund, so make sure to keep in touch with the store where you purchased the product.
Members, check your fridge and exercise extra caution when it comes to food safety!
