Warning about using bank cards to top up gocards

I would like to warn people what may happen to them, scanning their bank card to top up gocards, as this happened to me, I wanted to top it up $30, they said the transaction failed so to do it again, trusting them I did, only one $30 went on my gocard, but both transactions did go thru, and have the screen shot of my bank account to prove it, also have the paper tickets, but translink will not refund my money as they say there’s not enough proof, I did all that they asked of me, filled in forms, but they don’t want to refund my money, that was taken from my account for no reason

Speak to your bank, this happened to me when withdrawing money from a teller machine. The transaction printed a docket showing withdrawal, but no money appeared. The bank contacted the teller machine contractors and lodged the complaint. After waiting a couple of weeks for the machine to be audited I received my money back to my account.

That happened to me many years ago. I went straight into the Bank, lucky it was a week day, and told them. They did inform me that it would take a few weeks to get sorted, which it was. Now I either get cash out at a supermarket, or the Bank, only on a working day.

That is the downside of generic ATMs such as Rediteller and GoCash. I withdrew $500 from a Rediteller ATM but only received $450. It took me about six weeks to be reimbursed the missing $50.

Compare that to the Commonwealth Bank. I left $300 in one of their ATMs and apparently after about 30 seconds, it goes back into the ATM if not retrieved. I rang the bank a few minutes later after realising my mistake, told them the ATM location and ID number, time and sequence number. My $300 was reimbursed in two business days. That is why I ALWAYS get a printed receipt with any ATM transaction. If no receipt can be printed, I go to another ATM.

Same as a friend who withdrew $500 from a generic ATM. Instead of dispensing ten $50 notes, she received $200. Whoever cashed up the ATM reversed the hoppers, hence the wrong amount. And it took her over two months to get her money back. Not good for a pensioner!

Little bit off track, Veggiepatch, but here's another story about the downside of an atm, that includes hoppers, for those that deserved some bad karma.

40+ years ago I worked for a financial institution. It was just before 9am, before opening time, and the cretin known as the postcard bandit along with 6 mates hit one of the glass front doors with such force bits of it hit the back wall. Armed with the unmistakable look of AK47's and various other shotguns etc, they burst in as the atm was just being loaded up. Staff pushed the doors over and moved away.

Warning, skip this next paragraph if descriptions of violence might affect you.
The worst thing they did amongst quite a few was to press a 357 to the temple of a female teller and scream obscenities at her, and I do mean scream loudly, in her face, because she was shaking so much she could not manage to unlock the UCU in her tellers box. I've never witnessed, in close proximity, such a gutless and yet frightening act in my life, before or after the event.

To get away from the possible triggering for some, I'll stay away from the other traumas and stick to the atm bit.

The funny thing was that for such a smart arse bandit he and the rest of the thugs overlooked the noticeably opened door at the back of the atm and missed an easy $150,000 loaded up in the hoppers. ATM was right by the door that they had smashed in and exited from as well. Really good to include that laugh out loud bit whenever the subject was brought up by others. A genuine self tension breaker whenever reliving the circumstances.

Got another example when 2 years earlier I was at a different branch that saw most staff burst simultaneously into huge but nervous laughter at the blokes efforts to exit the building. But It'll have to wait for another day.

You have enough proof take it to the ombudsman and let them sort it out that's just BS I'm calling on them if you have the receipts how can they refuse??
Thank you Lisa, only have photo copies of the receipts now, I sent the original receipts in with the form, along with screen shot of my bank account, showing the date and 2 $30 withdrawals at the same time, at caboolture station, they rang me, I explained the whole story, they still refused to pay me back, I was told, not enough proof!

Unfortunately my bank can’t do anything to help me now, the money has already gone to Translink, it’s up to translink to refund me now, this happened at the ticket office at the caboolture train station, I never used an ATM

Try again to get your money back by emailing Translink and CC the Premier in on the email. Put in all the details and the date you first complained and the answer you received back. This way if they get back to you saying there is still not enough proof another department knows. Then it will not look good as the Premier department will follow up on what happened regarding the outcome. Make them responsible. It's your hard earned money.

Oh wow I am sorry to hear that why do they issues receipts if NOT for proof of purchase I think they are wrong and believe you need to see the ombudsman and ask if he can sort it..
