Want to have a chic home like this mum? Here's her budget-friendly secret!

Kmart and Bunnings are great places to get affordable home decor and furnishings, but sometimes it takes a little creativity and DIY skills to really make your home stand out. With a few simple renovations, you can easily transform your space into something unique and stylish.

Such has been the case of one DIY mum who stunned social media after she shared how she gave a makeover to some budget-friendly department store materials to recreate a more expensive piece of furniture she spotted online.

Perth mum Anthadene said she was scrolling through social media when she stumbled upon a $150 shelf and had a light bulb moment to recreate it herself.

"Industrial shelf using the acacia serving boards," the mum posted along with a photo of her creation on the Kmart Hacks and Decor Facebook Page.

"I saw something similar on Pinterest [a social media platform] and decided to try make it myself and love how it turned out."

In order to achieve the aesthetic, Anthadene shared that she chose a variety of plumbing fittings and purchased three $17 acacia serving boards.

"The serving boards are from Kmart and all the metal framework pieces and black paint is from Bunnings," she said.

The mum's post has gone viral, amassing more than 800 likes and over 70 comments.

One user wrote: "Oh I love this!"

"OMG such a good idea," another added.

Anthadene said that she was not expecting to receive such positive feedback given that the particular aesthetic is a little unconventional.

She said: "I didn’t think it would appeal to so many."

"I love the industrial look."

Many users also admired the addition of science-themed beakers on the shelves, saying that it elevated the design of the ensemble.

So, there you have it, folks! Will you be recreating this piece yourself? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Also, if you're looking to step up the aesthetic of your home without spending a fortune, we recommend starting small and simple projects.

One of the easiest ways to add a designer touch to your home is by painting your walls. A fresh coat of paint can instantly brighten up a space and make it feel new. If you’re feeling really creative, you can even paint patterns or murals on your walls.

Another great way to add some personality to your home is by DIY-ing your own home decor. Projects like painting vases, updating hardware, or even sewing your own curtains can make a big difference in the overall look of your space.

If you’re feeling really ambitious, you can even tackle some bigger projects like renovating your kitchen or bathroom. These types of projects can be a bit more challenging, but the results will definitely be worth it.

No matter what type of projects you decide to take on, remember to have fun and be creative. The best part about DIY-ing your home is that it can truly be a reflection of your personal style. So go forth and start renovating!
