Viral video shows brilliant way to quickly prepare this favourite Aussie fruit
We’re in the middle of winter and many of us turn to fruit and vegetables in a bid to fight off the nasty seasonal cold. One great thing about this time of year is that it is peak mandarin season. Due to their high vitamin C content, mandarins (and oranges) are a must-have on every winter grocery list. But did you know there is an easier (and quicker) way to eat the humble mandarin?
So if you’ve spent many afternoons preparing this fruit for any visiting grandchildren or even just as a snack for yourself, you’ll want to read on.
Anna Antonje, a popular travel and food blogger, shared a simple trick for peeling and cutting mandarins. The video has since gone viral on TikTok with many users praising her ingenious and their shock at not thinking of it sooner.
So without further ado, here is the only way you’ll eat mandarins from here on out.

In the video, Ms Antonje is seen cutting the mandarin horizontally once. Next, she grabs one-half of the mandarin and pushes the flesh inside out (holding the skin) so the interior fruit falls out. As a bonus, the fruit slices are already cut in half for bite-sized easier snacking.

'No way! This is perfect,' Anna says in the video as she tries the ‘hack’ for the first time.
The fruit appears to have been misidentified by many viewers. While many are claiming this tip is for oranges, here at the SDC HQ we can confirm this is not the case. As oranges do not separate from the skin in the same way as mandarins, the ‘hack’ will not work. (Trust us, we tried!) You might manage to make some orange juice by accident though.
Many TikTok users were excited by this discovery.
'Omg!!!! I don't eat mandarins because they are so hard to peel (I have long nails)!!!! Amazing,' one person exclaimed.
'I will now eat more mandarins. Respect,' another wrote while a third agreed: 'That's it, I'm back on mandarins!'.
Apparently, this is not news to everyone though. As the video spread around the globe, many viewers pointed out the hack is common practice in their culture. Both the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean were standouts.
Others simply claimed 'I've been doing this since I was a child.’ If only they’d shared this tip sooner!
There’s one comment we can certainly agree with as one user lamented, ‘Every time I open TikTok I’m convinced more and more that I know absolutely zero life skills/hacks.’
What do you think, members? Is this a revolutionary way to cut the beloved winter fruit or did you already know this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
