Vintage bike

There was a time when a bike was all you needed. No helmet, no phone, just two wheels and a head full of dreams. Most of us rode hand-me-down bikes with bald tyres and squeaky brakes, but they took us everywhere—from the milk bar to the coastline and back again.

And somehow, our parents were fine with it. Can you believe that?

I was sitting with a mate outside his caravan in a Central Coast caravan park having a couple of beers. A kid was riding up and down the access roads jumping his bike off the speed bumps having a great time...until he crashed coming of a bump, ending up in a pile of bike, gravel & rider - he was yelling, "I'm dead, I'm dead". We went over picked him up, dusted him off and noticing the gravel rash he now wore, I said to him you're not dead but when your mum sees you, you may wish you were!! 😉

I never had my own bike until I was in my 50’s. Only had it a few years before it was stolen.

In my 20’s I borrowed a friend’s bike after being dared to ride it. I did ok for a couple of minutes before I fell over. Didn’t help that I’d consumed a bit too much alcohol.

Bikes aren’t for me. 🚲
