French Vanilla Slices! I remember visiting one corner shop cause they made the best vanilla slices ever, The custard was so light and luscious. Not the heavy yellow fake custard you get that is sold at most cafes. It's made from a package which means every custard slice is the same everywhere unless you make your own from scratch.

Much nicer than the ones that they make now.
The newer versions are too sweet and heavy. I prefer them with icing sugar.

These were simply the best. Another great similar item from the bakery, (& I believe are still available) was something called a "bees' nest" - even better than the original vanilla slice, pictured earlier - fattening of course, but who cares, well maybe a little bit? - cheers Toad.

Guiness award winning ones (biggest and best) at Flinders Vanilla Slice store 272 Warrigal rd Cheltenham. Delicious.

Oh yes, LOVE vanilla slice! The best ever vanilla slice I have tried was during a holiday to Tassie. Lovely little town of Ross....delicious!
