Urgent recall issued for a popular baby toy for being potentially DEADLY to children

Grandmas and grandpas, keep your grandkids far away from these! Product Safety Australia has pulled a wooden rattle teether (from HushBabyAu) off the markets’ shelves for being potentially harmful and deadly to little ones.

The rattle features rounded ends and hoops attached to the centre. It was sold online and was available to purchase nationally between September 1, 2021 and March 9, 2022.

The kids toy was recalled as it failed to meet the size and shape requirements implemented by the mandatory safety standard for toys to protect children up to and including 36 months of age.

According to Australia’s mandatory standard, a toy must meet key requirements, including the product being no smaller than a particular size – this being approximately the same size as a 35-millimetre film canister. This applies to the toy itself and any of its parts that could be detached.

“The rattle may pose a choking or suffocation hazard for young children, which can lead to severe injury or death,” Product Safety Australia explained in a statement.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the rattle and dispose of or destroy the product before contacting HushBabyAu to arrange a full refund,”

“Anyone wishing for a refund will be asked to provide a photograph to show the product has been disposed of or destroyed.”

“If the product has already been disposed of, consumers are asked to notify HushBabyAu so that the safe disposal of the products can be monitored,” the recall read.

This came only a month after a pair of Trapz and Co rattle sets were issued a recall over fears they could cause deaths among young children.

The Montessori Rattle Set and Wooden Crochet 3-Piece Set also failed to comply with the mandatory size and shape requirements. It was feared the rattles could cause severe injuries or deaths, as they are a potential choking or suffocation hazard for young children.

The Montessori Rattle Set was available in stores and online for over a year (from September 21, 2020 to October 6, 2021). Meanwhile, the Wooden Crochet 3-Piece Set was sold for a little over three months (June 28, 2021 to October 6, 2021).

Anyone who owns either rattles has been advised to get rid of them immediately and provide proof of their destruction to receive a full refund.

Last year, Aldi’s Jack N’ Jill Wooden Block Sets were also pulled from the supermarket giant’s shelves over a potential choking hazard.

Please beware of these children's toys to keep your grandchildren safe from injury!

I would imaging that these toys are made overseas. How did they manage to get an import license? I would have thought that these companies have buyers that are fully conversant with the rules and laws for kids toys. As it's such a potentially dangerous thing I hope someone's butt is still sore from their oversight.:(
