The reason behind this drastic measure is the potential chemical contamination of these items with ethylene oxide.

This chemical is commonly used as a pesticide and sterilizing agent, and it's also a precursor in the production of other chemicals, such as antifreeze.

The presence of ethylene oxide in food products is alarming because it poses a significant health risk.

Food Standards Australia and New Zealand have issued a warning:

‘Food products containing ethylene oxide may cause illness/injury if consumed,” Food Standards Australia and New Zealand said in its recall.’

‘Consumers should not eat this product.’

‘Consumers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.’

‘Any concerned consumers should seek medical advice.’

It's essential to act swiftly to ensure your safety and that of your loved ones.

If you have already consumed any of the affected products and are concerned about your health, it is recommended that you seek medical advice as a precautionary measure.

Tip
For those seeking more information or who may have questions regarding the recall, McCain Foods Australia can be contacted directly on their hotline at 1800 000 422.

In related news, Food Standards Australia recalled a batch of Indya Foods’ Everest Fish Curry Masala 50g.

So. I take it, from the tone of your story, that McCain's was (is?) one of only two manufacturers to use ethylene oxide in the production of their goods? Yair, right ...
Another point: in all the 21 items given in the intro page to today's stories, more than half of them contained an exclamation point to stress the importance of the blurb! It's getting more like the No Idea or the Woman's Daze every day!

It's called an exclamation mark to those who use English correctly.

Who eats uncooked frozen foods while they are still frozen? Ethylene oxide exists as a gas at room temperature and would quickly volatilise at cooking temperatures.

Toxicity data for ethylene oxide only mentions the effect it has as a gas, not a liquid and only when inhaled not ingested. As ethylene oxide is very flammable, the potential risk would be from ignition, not from inhalation. But one would need a fairly hefty concentration for either to happen.

An extreme case of erring on the side of safety!
