Aldi has decided to cease selling a popular food item after detecting that it contains an undeclared ingredient that could cause a life-threatening allergic reaction.
The Fresh Salad Co Thai Coconut Wild Rice Salad (500 grams) was urgently recalled from the supermarket on Wednesday. The product was sold in several Aldi stores across the country including NSW, the ACT, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.
It posed a health risk due to the undeclared presence of cashews.
The following use-by dates indicate the salads that were impacted:
Food Standards Australia feared that customers with a cashew allergy or intolerance may have a deadly reaction after consuming the salad.
Healthline stated that cashew allergies often result in severe and fatal complications. They added that the symptoms of a cashew allergy usually manifest almost instantaneously after exposure to cashews.
Here are the following symptoms of a cashew allergy:
1. Abdominal pain
2. Vomiting
3. Diarrhea
4. Runny nose
5. Shortness of breath
6. Trouble swallowing
7. Itchy mouth and throat
8. Anaphylaxis (when the body is sent into a shock and one is having great difficulty breathing.)

“The most common complication from a cashew allergy is a systemic reaction, meaning it can affect the whole body. If the reaction is severe it can be life-threatening,” they added.
Customers who got their hands on the salad and have a cashew allergy or intolerance are urged to refrain from eating it and to return the food product to any Aldi store instead for a refund.
Any consumers who are experiencing the symptoms of a cashew allergy or are concerned about their health should immediately seek medical advice.
