Upgrade your culinary skills with these sensational kitchen tricks!

Cooking can be a challenge for some—after all, not everyone is blessed with skills in the kitchen. But you don’t have to be a seasoned chef to learn how to spice up your kitchen game, get the most out of cooking and keep food fresh longer.

Recently, a property company called Resooma shared six techniques that could elevate your culinary prowess.

From preventing your pasta from boiling over to making stale bread taste as fresh as the day you bought it, you'll be amazed by what you can achieve with a few simple tips.

Secure frozen food packets

It certainly can be a nuisance when half the contents of your frozen food packet fall out due to an unsealed top.

This issue can tire us out in no time, but thankfully, there’s an easy fix!

The first trick offered by Resooma suggested cutting a rectangular shape in the central part of any bag of frozen food. This will provide two handles that can be easily tied together in a knot.

This way, your frozen food will stay fresher for longer, and you won't have to worry about it spilling in your freezer compartment.

However, one user did point out that this hack isn’t foolproof, as it won’t work with certain types of frozen food that are too small to stay in the package. Be sure to keep this in mind when freezing those peas and tiny bites!

Stop your pasta water from bubbling over

Do you ever struggle with boiling water spilling over the saucepan when cooking pasta? From overflow messes to unexpected burns, it can be a real nightmare.

Thankfully, you can safely prevent this from happening! Resooma recommended putting a wooden spoon into boiling water before adding the pasta.

Another helpful user suggested: ‘You can lay the wooden spoon on top of the pan to stop it boiling over.’

This can be useful when you're straddling two burners or concerned about the wooden spoon soaking too long in water.

Using a larger saucepan with higher sides is also a great way to prevent any messy overflow.

Make stale bread taste fresh again

Don't throw out that stale, hard loaf just yet! There's an easy way to make it as fresh and tasty as when it was first bought.

All you have to do is cover the bread with a small amount of water, wrap it in tin foil, and heat it in the oven for five minutes at 180 degrees Celsius.

Because of this simple trick, you can enjoy warm, fresh bread, and you'll feel happy knowing you won't be wasting food or your hard-earned money.

Easily find the end of a wrap of clingfilm or tinfoil

Having trouble finding the end of the clingfilm? Look no further! This simple trick could save you from so much hassle in the kitchen.

All you have to do is push in the two tabs at the end of the box and push them in. The cardboard tabs will keep the roll in place, so you don’t have to fumble for the end of the clingfilm anymore.

This trick also works for similarly designed packets of tin foil—perfect for those often left with tiny, wrinkled-up pieces that tear no matter how carefully you try to pull.

Choose the pepper coarseness on a pepper grinder

For those of us who cook with pepper and heavily season our dishes with the spice, here's a useful tip.

Most pepper grinders have two settings: one for fine pepper and one for coarse pepper. To switch between the two, just pull up the plastic tab on the grinder so that more coarse peppercorns are released.

Use your can opener tab as a straw

Finally, there's a fun trick that can help you savour your favourite beverage in a convenient and—most importantly—safe way.

Instead of drinking right out of a can, try spinning the tab of the can opener around to cover the hole and insert a straw through it.

Not only is this safe and convenient, but it will also help your straw stay in place while you drink.

as far as freezer food is concerned I cut the top only as far to let contents pour out then roll it in and attach a plastic peg or two to the bag, works well for me and it keeps food fresher
