Upcycling at its finest: Kmart shopper turns old shoes into a stunning one-of-a-kind

Kicking up your style a notch and getting your money’s worth is easy when you're capable of upcycling. Just take it from this savvy shopper who turned a pair of worn-out Kmart shoes into an eye-catching masterpiece.

It all started when the shopper got inspired to find a pair of shoes to match a lively blue dress she has.

That's when it occurred to her: instead of buying a new pair, why not just repurpose the ones she already has laying around the house?

The avid DIYer shared her project online, and it wasn't long before it got picked up by thousands of fans. No wonder – it was an impressive feat!

Using a pair of plain black heels (similar to this one listed on Kmart's website for $10), she spruced them up using bright acrylic paint in a slew of colours, with splotches of hot pink and gold, making the shoes really pop.

But it didn't stop there. She also applied a layer of gloss varnish, and she ended up with a vibrant, vivid masterpiece that was sure to draw more than a few admiring looks.

The finished product was so impressive many of the commenters wished they had the same talent, jokingly saying, 'I have an addiction to clothes, shoes, handbags and linen – I wish I could paint and sew!'

As the responses piled in, some even asked if the Kmart fan could make and sell them a pair.

'Sell your creations,' suggested one commenter. 'What a great side hustle. Especially if we could send you a pair to paint them, then you know the style and size fits the client.'

While selling her creations isn't something the DIYer is keen on doing, it does serve as an inspiring testament to how perseverance and talent can pay off in more ways than one. And hey, maybe it’s a side hustle you could take up!

Silica gel is great to keep in with your sewing pins so they don't rust. I also found out that if you get moisture in your phone just put it in a bag with lots of silica gel for 24 hours and it draws the moisture out of the phone. Therefore no need to take the phone to a tech professional, unless it has been really drowned.
