Unsettling tea making recipe shocks millions online — “I’m traumatised”

An American woman has recently sparked controversy online after she revealed how she makes her cuppa and calls it "British tea".

Just a warning, for those who are a fan of the odd morning cuppa you might wanna buckle up and prepare yourself before reading on.

TikTok user @swfinds — who moved to the UK from the US — posted a video on the social media platform to share her bizarre way of making her version of the popular drink.

In the clip, the woman is seen pouring an immeasurable amount of milk into an electric kettle.

Next, she adds a heaped tablespoon of sugar into the kettle then pops in two teabags.

She then pours in some bottled water into the concoction, turns the kettle on, and lets the mixture boil until it's creamy.

Once the "British tea" gets into the consistency that she likes, she turns the kettle off and pours the liquid into a tall latte glass.

Finally, she added another heaped tablespoon of sugar in it.

We must admit that we find this method unsettling. So, it's not surprising that the video — which amassed more than 1.4 million views — drew flak from TikTok users.

One person wrote: “I’m traumatised…where is my therapist?”

“This is a disgrace,” another added.

Others questioned the validity of the video, saying that the woman may have posted this to poke fun at British culture as she stated in her bio that "So many things in the UK confuse me!”

“You are having a laugh,” one person wrote.

Meanwhile, a number of curious users said that they might try making a cuppa using this method.

One comment read: “I don’t know you guys, I’m kinda intrigued to try it.”

What are your thoughts on this bizarre tea-making video? Do you think she's just joking around?

Being an ex Brit I think that I know how to make a decent brew. First heat the teapot with boiling water, discard water when pot is hot, add one teaspoon of tealeaves for each cup you will serve then add an extra teaspoon of leaves to the teapot then pour boiling water over the leaves. Leave to sit until brewed, some people turn the teapot a few times, don't leave for too long as the tea will stew.
Depending which part of England you live in either add milk first then pour and add sugar or after pouring add sugar then milk. Or you could just pour water over a teabag and add sugar and milk to taste!

Being an Aussie I too reckon I know a bit about making tea, I make sure the fire has enough wood to boil the billy full of water and when boiling grab a handful of Bushell's Tea throw in put the lid on grab the handle then whirl the billy around your head a few times set the billy down open lid and dip your big enamel chipped mug in and fill it up leaves and all a good desert spoon of sugar and gulp it down and then back to work.

My husband was Scottish, and this is exactly how he made his tea. He was also a Lipton's Tea salesman, and this is how advised everyone how to make tea. Water MUST be boiling.

As a coffee drinker 1: this is a yank 2; Tea is a pommy tradition 3: Like a deer without eyes.. she has no idea. 4: obviously this is a send up of British tradition 5: the latte glass is the giveaway. bye for now I'm off to have my morning "pod" of coffee

I agree with your father except I put the milk in last as I like my tea strong and can see how much milk is needed by doing it this way.
