Unlock the secret to getting FREE Woolworths Roast Chicken: ‘That’s fantastic’

Shoppers are always looking for savvy shopping tips to share, and this tidbit will ruffle some feathers—in the best way possible!

Imagine walking into your local Woolworths and walking out with a delicious hot roast chicken without spending a single cent.

Sounds too good to be true? Well, one clever shopper has revealed just how he managed to do exactly that.

The secret to this freebie feast lies in understanding Woolworths' policy regarding their hot roast chickens.

Per the supermarket's guidelines, these roast chickens can only be displayed for four hours.

After this time, they're marked down to ensure they're sold quickly. But what happens if they still don't find a home in a shopper's trolley?

Instead of wasting perfectly good food, some Woolworths store managers have taken a more generous approach.

A customer, sharing his experience on social media, recounted how a Woolies deli team member approached him with an offer he couldn't refuse—a free BBQ chicken that had been on display for too long.

‘Shopping at my local Woolworths tonight, and the young lady working at the deli came out and offered me a free BBQ chicken,’ they said.

‘I know that there is only so long they can have them on display, and they mark them down. If they still don’t sell in time, they now give them away for free instead of throwing them out.’

'Right place, right time. Thanks, Woolworths,' he gratefully posted.

The response from the bargain-hunting community has been overwhelmingly positive, with many applauding Woolworths for this initiative.

'That's fantastic,' commented one user, while another added, 'That's great, especially for people in need.'

It turns out this isn't an isolated incident; other shoppers have shared similar stories of receiving free hot roast chickens towards the end of the day.

‘If you got around closing time you can sometimes get a free,’ one said.

A Woolworths spokesperson confirmed the four-hour display rule.

‘Our hot roast chickens are one of our most popular products, and because we work hard to ensure we have our chooks ready for customers when they need them, any wastage is minimal,’ the spokesperson said.

‘Food Standards Australia & New Zealand has published guidelines from Safe Food Australia that hot food, like roast chickens, can only remain on the shelf for four hours.’

‘Given their popularity, the majority of our chickens cooked each day are purchased by our customers.’

Sounds illegal to me. As already stated 4 hours is the maximum.
As stated above. When I checked the time was printed on the same paper sticker as the price. At my Woolies they don’t write it on with marker anymore
