Unforgivable or an overreaction? Coles shopper MORTIFIED over discovering a piece of meat in a pack of hot cross buns

Each one of us are regular customers to our local supermarket – and being long-time consumers of the industry, it’s safe to assume that we all have had our fair share of disappointing purchases, right? Damaged items, spillage from liquid products, and spoiled food are probably among the list. But how do we know when we’re crossing the line and being unreasonable?

One Coles customer slammed the supermarket giant upon discovering a tiny mishap in a vegan Easter buy.

The shopper took to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction after spotting a piece of bacon stuck to the bottom of a pack of Coles Fruit Free Hot Cross Buns.

He included a picture of the incident, where the Easter buy can be seen labelled as ‘vegan’ but a piece of pork seemingly caught up inside.

“Finding bacon in my Coles plain hot cross buns,” he wrote alongside several ‘vomiting’ emojis. “These sure as h**k aren’t vegan. I guess I can start saving my money this Easter season.”

“Why does every vegan thing I get lately have meat in it?” he said in another tweet as a follow-up.

One Twitter user responded to the post saying: “‘Fruit free.’ but not meat free.”

“Jeepers! Coles needs to do better” said another.

Coles revealed that they have addressed the issue.

“Our traditional Hot Cross Bun range (including fruit free) is baked fresh daily in our in-store bakeries,”

“Our store teams work hard to ensure our bakeries are kept clean and we have packing plans in place to prevent cross-contact between products, however, we can’t guarantee this won’t occur.

“We have followed up with the customer to identify the store so we can ensure they have appropriate measures in place.”

The supermarket chain also reached out to the frustrated customer with a direct response to his post on Twitter saying: “Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear you've found a piece of bacon in the hot cross buns' packet. So we can follow up, could you please let us know the store of purchase?”

I would be very concerned about finding any meat product in hot cross buns vegan or not and would have handed the package over at the service counter so they became aware of it and then reported it on the Coles site so they could ensure that the necessary steps were taken to hopefully prevent such incident in the future.
