Transistor Radio

How fun was it listening to music on this classic transistor radio? For many, the ‘trannie’ made picnics, beach trips, and even work extra special as they bop along to their favourite tunes. Did you have one? Share your memories here.

I had my grandfather’s black Panasonic one and it was excellent it was the only radio out of all my modern radios I have that worked out on my boat and my mates were really impressed how good it was unfortunately recently I dropped it and damaged the battery contacts and could not repair it been looking for one ever since scares as hens teeth.

We took them everywhere (prior to the mobiles of course!) Saw a guy with a trannie at the NRL match on Saturday so he could listen to the football commentary.

Listening to pirate radio, under the sheets at night, in the sixties, so parents wouldn't hear it.
That's in the UK.

i had one of KODAK film and one of SWAN BEER until they got stolen by someone "helping" us move a few months ago

OF course. Over the years I have had several. I think I got my first one when I was about 10, and I am now in my mid 60s. Before that I had a small Cystal set. This was a brand name shop purchased, and before that both my brother and I had a home built Crystal set.The current one I have is AM/FM, but can't remember what brand it is. It goes everywhere with Me.

Hubby still has his Panasonic one and it goes everywhere with him, fishing ,walking ect even though he has Spotify on his phone and $300 ear buds
Hi Suzanne, I have tried different types of small radios over the years, but always seem to come back to The Basic small type. I also have a smart phone which amongst other things controls my hearing aids, But if I am away from home and outside The small unit works best. I also have a much larger unit which uses D size batteries, and has a cord which plugs into Electricity which I carry around home. But of course this is not suitable to take to the Football or Cricket. Also we have limited DAB radio coverage in Northern Tasmania. Our car does have DAB Radio.

Hi Wayneo, I purchased my last one from Harvey Norman.
