Transform your kitchen cupboards with this $8 Kmart product

Do you feel like you're losing a game of cupboard Tetris every time you open your kitchen cabinet? Pots, pans, baking trays, chopping boards—they all seem to pile up in a chaotic mess that feels impossible to fix. Fear not, dear reader! Professional organiser Anita Birges has come to our rescue with a 'brilliant' tip using an unlikely $8 Kmart product to reorganise our kitchen cupboards.

Hailing from Sydney, Anita recently shared a video on Instagram demonstrating how an $8 Kmart file rack could completely transform cluttered kitchen spaces. The secret? Using the file rack to organise baking trays, muffin tins, and chopping boards vertically making them easy to access and saving valuable kitchen real estate.

'I’m going to show you one of my favourite kitchen organising hacks that is going to change your life,' Birges said on Instagram. 'All you need is a file holder from Kmart—it only costs $8, and it’s going to completely transform your cupboard.'

As you follow her lead and start tidying up your kitchen, Birges offers a resourceful tip: 'If you want to make the file holder longer because you have a wider space or more trays etc., just grab two file holders and cable tie them together.' This nifty strategy not only keeps your trays and chopping boards aligned but also maximises the space in your cupboards for easier storage and retrieval.

While Anita notes that some bulky items like loaf pans and pie dishes may not fit in the file rack, she suggests finding alternative storage spots and decluttering items that are seldom used. Consider reorganising your kitchen by looking for items that only have a seasonal purpose or which have fallen into disrepair.

The video has gone viral, racking up over 235,000 views and receiving rave reviews. One likened the unorganised storage system to 'a game of JENGA,' and many others offered their appreciation for this tip, calling it 'brilliant' and 'exactly what [they] need!'

A diverse array of people confirmed the effectiveness of Birges' method and the file rack product itself, which has garnered a near-perfect 4.8 stars out of 5 on Kmart's website. 'Can confirm it works a treat!' said one reviewer, while another praised, 'I got two to store kitchen items better...they are very handy to keep the cupboards tidy and organised and never have all the trays falling out like they can when piled up.'

Given the positive response and incredible organisational power of the humble $8 Kmart file rack, it's about time we all stopped letting our kitchen cupboards control us and started transforming them into tidier and more efficient spaces.

Other Affordable Organising Tips and Products

Sticking to a budget doesn't mean compromising on organisation. There are plenty of affordable tips and products out there that can help transform your space.

One such tip is the clever use of clips or even clothes pegs, which can be used to hang smaller items from racks, hangers and curtain rods to keep them off countertops and out of cupboards – great, for example, for kitchen utensils or beauty products in the bathroom.

Baskets and bins are also a great way to keep your home tidy. Many shops offer a wide variety of baskets and storage boxes at affordable prices. Wicker or woven baskets are great for storing a variety of items, from toys to kitchen goods. Alternatively, boxes can be found at most dollar stores and are usually available in a range of sizes and colours, making them perfect for organising items in closets, shelves and cabinets.

Finally, don't underestimate the power of labelling. Printable labels are available online from multiple retailers, or you can even make your own at home using coloured cardstock and a printer. Whether it’s adding labels to boxes and bins or labelling your drawers and cabinet doors, organising with labels can help make tidying up easier and keep the organisational system you’ve created in place.

Interesting. I did this with my large size lids, cutting boards and baking trays and such quite some time ago. I can't remember where it go the racks from after all the time I have had them but they work really well.

Been doing that for years! Not a file holder but it is actually meant for that same thing. I keep my breadboards in there & oven trays.
