Too Good To Go App Review – I Saved $30 on Groceries… But There’s a Catch

If you’re an SDC Rewards member, you already know how much I love a good bargain/freebie. So, naturally, when I heard about an app offering heavily discounted food, my interest was piqued.
Now that I’ve finally tried the Too Good To Go app, I wanted to share my experience with you all. Not sure what I’m talking about? Too Good To Go promises to save food from the bin and save you a few bucks at the same time. It’s a bit of a lucky dip… but that’s half the fun.
What I ordered:
I picked up two surprise bags from QE Food Stores in Sydney:
What I actually got:
Here’s the good, the bad, and the slightly overripe:
The Mixed Bag ($9.99):
I got:
Here’s where it becomes a bit of a mixed bag (literally and figuratively):
The Fruit & Veg Bag ($4.99):

- One Mixed Surprise Bag for $9.99
- One Fruit & Veg Surprise Bag for $4.99
What I actually got:

The Mixed Bag ($9.99):
I got:
- Packaged lettuce (in surprisingly good shape)
- A pre-made salad bowl (use-by that day)
- A tub of tabbouleh (use-by next day)
- 400g of beef meatballs (use-by next day)
- A tub of pre-cut pineapple (use by that day)
Here’s where it becomes a bit of a mixed bag (literally and figuratively):
- A bunch of bananas (very spotty, on their last legs)
- A completely overripe, mushy plum
- 3 bruised apples
The Fruit & Veg Bag ($4.99):
I got:
- Another bunch of bananas (even spottier, on their last legs)
- A punnet of cherry tomatoes (only a few were mouldy), along with a squishy lone tomato
- A leek
- One very sad capsicum
- Two slightly squished nectarines
- A chunk of garlic
- And a lime
