Tired of stained Tupperware? Here’s an effortless hack to get your containers looking like new

At some point we all experienced enjoying a nice takeaway dinner or packed lunch while lounging on the couch, watching telly when all of a sudden we find ourselves stuck with an annoying little problem at the end of a nice meal — we're talking about the greasy containers!

The oily plastic containers can be nightmarish to clean, with food residue often leading to grime that sticks to your fingers.

You can either silently scream in frustration (we’ve done that before, trust us), give up and surrender the Tupperware to someone else in your household to clean, or worse, throw the container away.

No one wants to waste money throwing out good Tupperware but the extra time and effort required to clean those impossible stains can be frustrating for most.

But fear not, members, because we have the perfect trick for you that’s simple, economical, and will get your dear Tupperware looking as good as new once more.

TikTok user Ekin Görür has shared a practical tip that can help you clean your greasy Tupperware in no time.

In a new video, the homeowner demonstrated how to remove the stubborn food residue from a takeaway container and make the plasticware piece look brand new without even wetting her hands!

All she needed is dishwashing liquid and paper towel.

Ekin started by filling her container with water before adding a dash of dishwashing liquid.

She said that you can use whatever dishwashing liquid you have available at home.

Once the container was filled with soapy water, she tore off a piece of paper towel and placed it at the bottom.

Next, put the lid back on and give the Tupperware a good, solid shake.

After that, take the container out and drain the soapy water out of the container.

Once done, she simply rinses the container with water and it's ready to be used!

Several viewers raved over Ekin’s 'life-changing' hack, with a number of them expressing their gratitude for taking the time to share it with the community.

One user wrote: 'I did this and it works! Not on old stains, but only recently used boxes. Absolutely love it!' wrote one fan.

'This is the only hack that I use and it works great. Especially for oil stains,' another added.

'Yes, I always do this. Learned from TikTok. Very easy to clean,' commented a third.

But not everyone was so enamoured - some argued that the regular way of doing the job produced better results than this trick.

'It's not a hack when the regular way to do it works better,' one person argued.

Another agreed: 'All this because you don't want your hand to touch water?'

A third added: 'Failing to see how this is a useful hack…'

Dish soap and water is the most popular option, as it will sanitise and remove most stains with minimal effort. Start off by using a dish scrubber to remove any food particles, then use a drop of mild dishwashing liquid and warm water to wash the inside and outside of the Tupperware.

For a non-toxic option, vinegar is also a great choice. Fill the container with equal parts vinegar and warm water and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing.

If you're after a more effective solution then it might be worth using some bicarb soda. Mix a few tablespoons with warm water, then apply the paste inside the container with a scourer and rub lightly until the stain is gone. This will also prevent any plastic or hard-to-reach parts from melting, as some plastics have a tendency to do when exposed to hot water.

Once you're done, give the container a final rinse with cold water and you're good to go. With these handy methods, you can prevent your Tupperware from becoming full of grime and bacteria over time.

The coloured stains left from curry or tomato based foods after washing can usually be removed by putting the container in the sun.

Who even uses Tupperware anymore?
I do, I have a whole kitchen full of Tupperware, and no I am not a consultant. It may cost more but in the long run I don't have to keep replacing it like I did with the cheap versions when the lids would break. I raised six kids and have never owned a dishwasher, I am the dishwasher

I had a kitchen full and over the years it broke and where we were you could not find a tupperware dealer for love nor money. I find the Sistema and a couple of others on the market last just as long. And from what I hear from people now there are no longer any life time warranties on certain items
