Those desks with inkwells!

We had plenty of these at my school 'back in the day' (the 1950s) and used dip pens for writing while I was in primary school. Fast forward to 1965, my last year at school in England and taking A Level exams sitting at said desks! One of the boys got a bit bored, and started to investigate his inkwell, when he managed to get his index finger knuckle stuck in it. He and the attendant teacher tried to dislodge it but it was stuck fast, and the last we saw of him that day was when he, the teacher and the desk departed to the emergency department of the local hospital conveniently located next door to the school. He returned to school next day with his finger bandaged and a very sheepish expression on his rather red face.

Remember these ink wells and the horrible mess when writing with pens with nibs....black Indian ink everywhere.😂

Another problem I had as a left hander (Don't know why I was allowed to be in the early 1950's) was my hand rubbing on my work as I worked from left to right! So many smudges and my hand ended up all inky! I taught myself to do backwards writing (Right to left) and that solved the problem but my teacher was NOT impressed!
