This woman lost nearly 30kg with one simple change—find out how she did it!
It’s important to stay motivated to keep our physical and mental well-being in check. But it’s easier said than done; it can be very challenging to find the time and motivation to look after yourself and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Why not take things one step at a time? Small changes can have a big impact as was the case for Christie Wills.
Christie struggled with weight gain during the lockdown.
Growing up, she was always in great shape and never had any issues with her weight. So when she woke up one day and noticed that the number on the scale had gone up significantly, she was shocked.
Previously weighing 60kg, Christie said she felt completely overwhelmed and confused about what to do when her weight reached 84kg.
‘It totally just crept up on me. I gained the weight so slowly that I hardly even noticed,’ she told a news source.
‘I can’t really pinpoint one particular reason, but I guess I just stopped caring a bit about my health. I was eating whatever I wanted and stopped working out. I had no structure at all and just let myself go,’ she admitted.
One day, Christie saw a photograph of herself taken at her highest weight, and she said that she ‘didn’t recognise’ the person in it.
‘It was a huge wake-up call. I had no idea I looked like that,’ she revealed.
‘It was the motivation I needed to get started on my health journey,’ Christie added.
She wasn’t sure where to begin, so she decided to start her health journey by taking the most simple step she could think of: walking.
Christie started with 5-7km walks every single day without fail, rain or shine. This exercise, along with her physically demanding job at Kmart, meant she was hitting an average of 30,000 steps a day.
‘It might not seem like much, but that simple change made a huge difference,’ she said. ‘I actually hurt my ankle last December, so the walking at first was more to help get my ankle back into shape. But I got so much more out of it.’
‘I began slimming down quite quickly. It was so simple but very effective,’ Christie stated.
‘People really disregard the power of a humble walk, but it’s such great exercise. I managed to lose 20kg just by walking,’ she claimed.
Walking was just the start. Christie eventually added more exercise to her routine. She started going to the gym to do some weightlifting despite her busy schedule. Christie also stopped eating at fast-food restaurants, chose water over soda, and overhauled her diet.
She explained: ‘It was a bit of an addiction, but more so it was pure convenience. I just did not make the time to cook and prepare healthy meals, so that was the easiest alternative.’
Christie now plans her meals in advance, opting for healthy and balanced ingredients that give her a good amount of protein, fats and carbs.
More than that, she kept track of her calorie intake by downloading the app called ‘My Net Diary’.
Four months later, she reduced her weight to 56kg, but she gained 2kg more and claimed that she felt her best at that weight.
Christie also went from dress size 14 to size 6 after her fitness journey.
More than the physical benefits, she shared that her transformation had improved her mental health as well.
‘It was not only helping my physical health, but my mind feels so much better for it,’ she said.
Christie shared her fitness journey on social media, hoping to inspire others like her who are on the same path.
‘The hardest part is just getting started. But once you begin seeing results and you’re feeling better, you will be hooked,’ she stated.
Christie assured: ‘It might seem difficult at the beginning, but it is so worth it. I feel better than ever and couldn’t be happier.’
