This woman’s floor cleaning hack is supposedly ‘mind-blowing’ – but the internet isn’t convinced

We think it’s safe to assume that everyone loves a good cleaning tip. Whether it’s a clever way to remove a stain or prevent grime build-up, almost everyone has at least one 'quick trick' up their sleeve to make cleaning a little easier.

But a cleaning tip from one woman has left people divided on social media.

Cleaning guru Tanya has over 200,000 followers on her popular Facebook page, Tanya Home Inspo. This is also where she shares cleaning hacks, often demonstrating how she keeps her home spick and span on a budget.

In one of her videos, Tanya demonstrated how she keeps her mopping water clean as she mops the floor of her house.

Using a Vileda spin mop bucket, Tanya placed another (smaller) container into the water section. Once she was done filling up the container with boiled water, she dips the mop in and cleans the floor before spinning the mop as usual.

The dirty water gets rinsed out of the mop and into the larger bucket, leaving the water in the smaller container clean. ‘This way you’re only using clean water to mop your floors,’ Tanya said in the video.

Her video went viral – racking up more than 27,000 likes and thousands of comments. Many praised her ‘hack’, and thanked her for the great tip.

One woman commented: ‘I have to say, mind-blowing videos never live up to the hype but this might ACTUALLY change my life, I am a mopping fanatic.’

‘Thank you! I just had a separate bucket, but this is so much better!’ Added another.

However, not everyone was impressed. Some people didn’t like her idea, while others said it was ‘pointless’.

‘But you’re still putting your dirty mop in it to get it wet again,’ explained one person.

Another chimed in: ‘It’s really pointless because you dip your mop in the solution with the cleaner, spin it, mop the dirty floor, and then what? Where do you rinse the dirty mop?’

‘Except you’re constantly putting the dirty mop into the cleaning solution? Can’t avoid it, sorry!’ A separate user shared.

Some were harsher with their comments, saying that there are some ‘bad hacks’ online. ‘This one’s so terrible, I’m half wondering if it’s satire!’ one person wrote.

Other people tried explaining how Tanya’s hack works.

‘The hack is... as you mop the floor and spin out the mop, the dirty water goes into the bucket and you're not putting dirty water back into the cleaning solution in the white container,’ offered one.

But many weren’t convinced and said it created more work with two buckets to be cleaned instead of just one.

‘You need to rinse the mop as you go…and judging by the colour of the water, it definitely needs to be rinsed,’ someone else commented.
Key Takeaways

I have 1 of these mop and bucket and they are great. When I wash my floors I use the cheapest nappy wash I can find about, 1 put a scupe in the bucket along with Nature’s way eucalyptus wool wash which is also pretty cheap. I’ve been using this concoction for years too wash my floors. Not only do my floor come up clean, it keeps my mop clean and you have the lovely smell of Eucalyptus in your home.
