This upcycling trick will take your vases from drab to fab!

The majority of the ceramic pieces that we come across on social media platforms like Pinterest and Instagram tend often come with a steep price tag.

On the other hand, vases found in thrift stores can be acquired for a couple of dollars or less. Often, you can find shapes and silhouettes that resemble high-end vases if you can look past the outdated pattern or finish.

All that's left to do is use a little bit of "magic" (by which we mean upcycling abilities) to transform that vase into a gorgeous, expensive-looking planter.

Here, an avid DIYer shows us how to transform vintage thrifted vases into elegant white vases that appear to have been taken right out of a home decor magazine!

The project was really simple and only cost Tiffany $30. Credit: Instagram.

Tiffany, who manages a home styling page on Instagram, shared that she gets a lot of questions from her followers about where they can purchase large white vases like the ones that she has.

However, much to the surprise of her fans, she revealed that she actually bought them from thrift stores in her neighbourhood, such as the Salvos.

After quickly repairing and cleaning the thrifted vases, she begins to work on painting the exterior to match the aesthetics of her beautiful boho-style home.

To give her vases an authentic rustic look, Tiffany mixes her white paint with bicarb soda to create a clay-like texture.

You could also just use paint the way it is. But based on the surface of your vases, you might need to add a primer first or add a few more coats just to achieve complete coverage.

The project was a huge hit with Tiffany's audience, and they said that the finished result came out looking stunning.

"What a glow up, babe," one person commented, with a second one chiming in and saying, "Came up so beautiful, well done!"

If you're also looking to upcycle any thrifted vases you have in your home, check out the video above or refer to the steps that follow:
  1. Remove the vases' price tags if there are any. Rub some white vinegar on any tough tags and let it sit for a few minutes if it doesn't remove them right away or leaves a lot of residue. After that, the tags and residue should come off easily with a scrub.
  2. Clean the vases with soap and water, then thoroughly dry them.
  3. Add a half cup of paint to an empty jar or container, and then sprinkle a tablespoon of bicarb soda over the paint.
  4. Mix the paint and bicarb soda thoroughly. The paint will start to fizz and bubble a bit, but that's normal and what gives the paint its great texture.
  5. Apply a light coat of paint to the entire vase using a paintbrush. (Choose cheap chip brushes with coarse bristles because they will make a really nice texture.)
  6. To give the vase a uniform appearance, be sure to paint inside the rim.
  7. Wait an hour for the first coat to dry, and then paint a second one. Repeat with a third coat if necessary. Your recycled vases are now finished and ready for use after the final coat of paint has dried for a few hours.
Best of luck with your upcycling project, members! Let us know how it turns out, we would love to see it!

Dust catchers? No more. I have had a long life of beautiful knick-knacks, many of which have had instant admirers still alive to take over. All behind glass to admire. I have now the urge to remember who has handed out compliments during my very full life & because of their appreciation I am asking them once more to be honest so I can make them a gift whilst still alive. To each his own. I have known no other way in my life to have been "A giver." This act is going to give me my upmost pleasure, a continuity of how I have lived. I'm looking forward to a new hobby in the next world. We take nothing with us but lovely memories. " Looking forward "is the mystique of what lies ahead for us all.
