This small family business outsmarted a global giant—here’s what happened next!

It’s the classic David versus Goliath story—only this time, it played out right here in Australia, and the underdog was a family-run beauty business with a heartwarming mission.

The stakes were high, with corporate giants looming large and legal threats piling up.

But armed with community support and sheer determination, this small business refused to back down.

If you’ve ever felt like the little guy doesn’t stand a chance against the world’s mega-corporations, the story of Kenz Beauty will have you cheering from your armchair!

Kenz Beauty isn’t just another name in the crowded world of skincare and beauty.

The business was founded by Rim Daghmash, a devoted mum who wanted to celebrate her daughter Kenzie, who lives with autism.

The name 'Kenz' is a tribute to Kenzie, and the business was built on the belief that 'autistic kids are beautiful'—a message Rim wanted to share with the world.

What started as a small, home-based venture quickly grew, thanks to Rim’s passion and the support of her family.

But just as things were looking up, a letter arrived that threatened to bring it all crashing down.

Enter LVMH—the $400 billion French luxury conglomerate that owns, among other brands, the world-famous Paris fashion house Kenzo.

Their legal team claimed that 'Kenz Beauty' was 'deceptively similar' to 'Kenzo,' and demanded that Rim change her business’s name.

For most small business owners, a legal threat from a global giant would be enough to make them throw in the towel.

But Rim wasn’t about to give up on her dream—or her daughter’s legacy—without a fight.

‘A five-year-old will be able to tell the difference between Kenzo and Kenz Beauty; they are two totally different names,’ Rim told reporters, echoing what many of us were probably thinking.

The story caught the attention of A Current Affair, who shone a spotlight on Rim’s battle.

The response from everyday Aussies was nothing short of incredible. Messages of support poured in, and Kenz Beauty’s products sold out in just three days after the story aired!

It’s a powerful reminder of the strength of community and the impact of standing together against unfairness—something our SDC members know all too well.

Despite the pressure, Rim stood her ground. LVMH’s lawyers suggested a string of alternative names—'The Beauty of Kenz,' 'Beautiful Kenz,' and more—but Rim was determined to keep her daughter’s name front and centre.

After months of back-and-forth, mediation, and more than a few sleepless nights, a compromise was finally reached: the business could continue as 'Kenz Beauty & Co.'

It wasn’t exactly what Rim had started with, but it was close enough to keep her daughter’s name alive and her business thriving.

‘I think that they got sick of it as much as we did,’ Rim joked, clearly relieved that the ordeal was over.

With the legal battle behind her, Rim wasted no time in expanding her business.

Kenz Beauty & Co. now boasts what she says is Queensland’s only Moroccan hammam—a centuries-old spa tradition—at their ladies-only day spa in Mudgeeraba.

The product range has tripled, and Rim has gone from working solo at home to leading a team of five passionate skin therapists.

Most importantly, Kenzie’s name still shines on the door, and the business’s mission remains unchanged: to celebrate beauty in all its forms and support families like theirs.

Rim credits the overwhelming support from A Current Affair viewers and the wider Australian public for helping her through the toughest days.

‘Whether they made a purchase or they sent us a message. It all means so much to us. Thank you,’ she said.

It’s a testament to the power of community and a reminder that when we rally behind the little guy, amazing things can happen.

Kenz Beauty’s story shows that standing up for what’s right, even against overwhelming odds, can lead to real change.

It also highlights the power of community—every kind word, purchase, or shared story can make a meaningful impact.

Above all, it reminds us that small businesses are the heart of Australia, bringing innovation, heart, and a personal touch that global giants can’t match.
