This simple trick will instantly make your chips taste so much better!

Ah, there's no snack quite like a packet of chips. Whether it's smothered in flavouring or just sea salt – they are guaranteed to be a flavourful experience. Or are they?

Sometimes, the crunch is there, and the salt is there, but where's the flavour? According to a recent hack on TikTok, you could be missing out on the full-flavoured chip-eating experience without even knowing it.

So, what is this magical hack, you ask? Next time you're opening a packet of chips, try opening it upside down.

As we all know, chips are usually stacked upright on supermarket shelves, and according to Justin, an Aussie TikToker, this causes the flavouring and seasoning to settle to the bottom of the bag.

In his video, Justin flipped a pack of chips upside down, showing viewers how the seasoning went from the top of the bag to the very bottom.

He then concluded the video with the urgent declaration: 'Tell your mum, dad, brother, sister and everyone you know!'

But aside from opening your bag of chips at the bottom, did you know there's another trick to make sure you're getting the most out of their seasoning? By shaking the bag, you help to distribute the seasoning evenly, so each chip gets a more consistent flavour.

The process of shaking your bag of chips can also help to remove any excess air that may have been trapped inside. This helps to prevent the chips from becoming stale, and it can also make them feel more crisp and fresh.

Also, the movement caused by shaking the bag can help to break up any clumps of chips that may have formed, which can also contribute to a more even distribution of seasoning.

If you're worried that the bag might burst from all the shaking, don't worry - it's highly unlikely! Chips are typically packaged in bags that are designed to withstand some level of pressure, such as being jostled during transportation.

The amount of air inside the bag is also usually carefully controlled to prevent the bag from bursting.

However, it is possible that a bag of chips could burst or rip open if it has been punctured or torn - shaking it could cause it to break open and spill the chips everywhere, so just be sure to handle the bag gently and avoid shaking it too vigorously.
Key Takeaways

  • Try opening a packet of chips upside down to get a better flavour, because a lot of the seasoning falls to the bottom of the bag when stored upright on supermarket shelves.
  • You can also shake the bag to redistribute the seasoning before opening it.
While a bag of chips might be tempting with its delicious flavour, it's important to remember that they can be loaded with unhealthy amounts of salt and sugar. Consuming too much of these can have negative effects on our health in the long run.

As an alternative, you might want to try out some of the healthy recipe options we've listed below:

Enough already. I'm sooo over reading about hacks. Now we are opening potatoes chips the wrong way. Next it will be you have lived your life the wrong way so "Let me show you how to live it the right way". Enough!!

OMG. I have always opened my bag of chips upside down. We don’t need some young tictok person telling us how to eat chips. Jeez, this is the “seniors” club and we aren’t stupid. 😀
agree, anything seasoned or spiced, including for eg. nuts, need shaking or opening from base if to sippers. It's simply common sense. Have they not got something better to do with their time to try something they think they have invented.

I'm sick and tired of being told that we're doing things the wrong way. Who are the people that decide these things? Leave us alone.

Totally agree MotherGoose…
Just where have these people been hiding all their lives, they thing they have made some “world discovery”
Commonsense to me…flavour would settle to the bottom, give a shake to redistribute flavour and open from the bottom, enjoy your chips!!

Young kid in Supercheap Auto, thinks he knows everything .. I asked him where they had the lock-nuts for mag wheels?
He replied .. You oldies know nothing about autos... They are in the wheel section, if you look.
I didnt tell him but I personally know Reg and Hazel Rowe .. (Hazel worked for Mum in the 60s) Reg and Hazel started a mail order business in Brisbane and it grew so fast that they setup Supercheap Auto.
Well, I spat chips ... Maybe we didn't have all these Auto Parts in one place so we got off our butts and invented many of these items and then put them in shops like this ..SO THAT IDIOTS LIKE YOU WOULD HAVE A JOB WHEN YOU LEFT SCHOOL... Now YOU get of your butt and get us four sets of locking wheel nuts now..
You should have seen the look on his face and how quick he took off to get the Locking Nuts for us.
LOL They really don't know we invented 90% of the gear they have today... We didn't even have plastic and look what we did when we found out about it. No TVs or Mobile phone but NOW? they are everywhere..

Well done vet543. These people need to be pushed back. Enough with the hacks! And this site should STOP printing them. We haven't reached out 60s because we were stupid.

Quote Christina V ...
We haven't reached out 60s because we were stupid.
THAT is so true .. I am almost 80 just One month to go
The kids think that their generation invented all this ... No Way Joshua...We did 90% of it .. Our Generation .. Bill Gates is 68 and his hair is going gray... He built Microsoft... very archaic computers were invented during WW2 ..
DON'T GET ME STARTED ... I just LOVE our generation ... and anyone over 65 .. now..

Good on you Vet543, you could be my little brother, a decade later. But more importantly here has been the death of our manufacturing industry and all the skills and jobs that went with it. A steady erosion of everything that made us a lucky country since WW2. Who benefitted most (eventually) from that war... the losers! Have a good day while I get off my soap box. ;)
